| Apex Techie Lite | I just finally got around to getting a new case [ HSC aka Halted (Santa Clara, CA) had a annual sale, bought a giant full tower case for 10 bucks (was 50cents by the lb for all electronic equipment...) ] and i just kinda got into moddin, and stuff, so ima n00b. this case is calling out to be modded... but all the mods seem to be too common... anyone have any ideas that are less common [windows, cold cathodes, etc...]? thanks for input.... the pic of the case is kinda high in rez... so im linking it instead. http://mvaughn.250free.com/CaseFront.jpg thnx | |

| Welcome! The key to doing something different is to pick a theme, Anti-M is doing a case now with a 20,000 Leagues under the Sea/ Nautalis sub theme for example. A favorite movie or hobby or is a good place to start. Look in the case galleries here, notice the details, look at how everything works together. Some things can be copied/Integrated into your own ideas. It depends on how much time you are willing to spend too, a case can be modded in a weekend, or take months... Stick with things you know you can do, or are willing to invest time in learning the proper way. Many plans seem great at first, but are tossed aside when it takes too long, or is too difficult. Look at other areas of "Modding" too, the Rice Burner crowd is always doing crazy stufff to there cars, and old Hot Rods have been the leader of custom trends for many years. Just plan it out carefully, ask questions about your ideas, and take your time, and you can always upgrade it as your skills and ideas improve ![]() | ||

| Apex Techie Lite | Ok, well I got 1 idea so far. One is a hard drive rack, Ghostbuster's Proton Pack style, where they are angled and somewhat stacked, on a rack that would be able to be pulled out from say one of the 5.25" bays [i know its gonna end up take 2 of the 5.25"s....] does anyone see any flaws with that? cooling, performance, physical obstructions, etc. | |

| Don't know if it will cause problems, but I can't think of any reasons offhand, maybe someone else can. I would think it would work as long as you maintain good airflow around them, and leave some space between them. Hard drives work at any angle as far as I know. Love the Ghostbusters idea! Lots of material to work with from that movie ![]() | ||
