Default cpu temp:32, case temp: 40 ???????

i just put in some fans and a heatsink and gpu heatsink and was getting good temperatures, usually 24/27 mobo/cpu. then i put in a cd rom(computer has 1 now) and a floppy, and covered up some 3 open pci slots. now im getting 39/32 mobo/cpu temps. any idea whats with that?

specs
crappy case
4 case fans
gpu cooler
asus a8n-sli board
amd 3000+
nvidia 6800

Well, all things being equal, adding a CD-ROM and floppy will add next to no heat.

Covering up 3 open PCI slots (I'm assuming you mean in the back of the case) is probably your culprit.

Temps in the mid 30s are not bad... unless your computer starts to freeze up. Don't worry about it.

Gumby is right. What makes me wonder more is if you got your temp readings backwards. The CPU can't be cooler than the case. Not possible.

Im using asus probe and it says cpu: 32 motherboard:40. Ill try uncovering the slots to see if that helps. Any idea what the MB censor looks like so I can check it out and make sure its ok?

Use CoreTemp to monitor your CPU temp.

Core Temp

Much more accurate than most software.

coretemp says 30* C, i know the MB temp has to be lower but asus probe says its 40 now, should i just forget about mb temps and just go off CPU?

Coretemp is trusted more than the mobo programs as it is getting the temp off resisters in the processor(s). Checking the motherboard temps is good, incase you have a bad air flow.
