Default brainstorm with me

So I have this electric cooler. It basically makes that piece of metal cold to keep pop or beer cold in your car. I got to thinking... "Hmm if I drill a crapton of holes in that metal thing and have a fan blow through them could this cool down the air and drop my case temp???? What do you think? Im going to test it in my car to see how cold it actually gets. Also I could just mount the damn thing to my cpu to keep it cool. This would mean I would have to start the cooler up like 10 minutes before firing up my computer but if it kept it cooooold then that wouldnt matter. $30 at walmart... runs on 12v so I could run it from my psu I think.

Better check and see how much current it draws.

Not exactly sure how to do so. I have a multimeter but wouldnt I need to bust it open to get these numbers?

Your multimeter should have a DC-Amps setting... if it's a half-decent multimeter to begin with. While you have the cooler plugged in to a cigarette lighter, measure the amperage across the terminals of the pelt to see how much it's drawing.

Since it obviously runs on 12v, the two wires from the pelt can be wired directly to the +12v rail of a supplimental PSU.

Theres also a company that makes "air-conditioned" cases. They have a peltier in the front intake and a neat control / display scheme to go with it.

i wouldn't be drilling holes through your pelt, if you want to A/C your case, i would take a heatsink and mount it to the pelt and just have the air coming into your case run over that heatsink, inefficient but hey... it would work better then drilling holes...

Don't you have to measure current in series with the circuit being measured?

Yeah, you do. And you need a load in there, too.
Voltage can and should be measured in parallel.
