Question Fan Placement

So I'm in the middle of painting my case when I look at my window which has two 80mm intakes vertically stacked that blow right over all of my PCI slots (above and below my video card). I then look at the two holes that I have on the back of my case which are two 80mm exhausts, with the bottom exhaust almost overlapping with the top side intake. I figure this can't be very efficient since the bottom exhaust will probably suck out most of what the top intake brings in. I drilled out some rivets and took out my window to see if I could flip it to make the side intakes horizontal across the bottom, but the windows dimensions don't work out. So, my choices are...

1) Leave the fans vertical on the lower side of my case
2) Flip the window over so the fans are stacked vertically, but blow over the CPU instead of the video card.
3) Get a new window and cut two new holes horizontally on the lower side (any advice for this in terms of placement besides right next to each other?)
4) Get a new window, but f*** the side intakes for the sake of peace and quiet.

Here's my current fan setup. It's a Lian-Li PC-65 case (for those who are familiar with Lian-Li's). Two 80mm front intakes, one 120mm blowhole, two 80mm rear exhausts and now (since I have an extra 120mm fan ) I made a huge hole in the middle of the bottom of the case for a 120mm intake. I don't even know how that is going to affect case my temps. yet. And as mentioned above, I have two more fans for side intakes, I'm just unsure of how to set them up, or if I even need to change them. I have a rheobus, so even though there's a bunch of fans, it's not nearly as loud as you think . So what do you think? I tried to keep this post short, but I guess that didn't work out.

Salz, the poor traditional design of PC cooling never worked out anyway but remember that fans that move more air will dominate another fan if they are in close proximity, and if they are equal they will indeed defeat theyre own purpose by taking the air that just came in right back out, so I suggest you loose the side intakes and go with a high-cfm low-rpm 120MM on the bottom. Things you should try:

(1)120mm fan intake at bottom
(2)Loose side intakes current location
(3)Get 30-40CFM rear outtakes
(4) Have one or two 30CFM front intakes

Make one of those ever popular cpu ducts; by flipping your window panel, use one of the holes to duct outside air directly onto your CPU HSF.

The only revision I would make is to put a 120mm intake in the door blowing on the CPU and GPU.

If you follow PR, you will see that I suggest this a lot. It makes a difference. It doesn't need to be high CFM, just get some air movement against them.

Thanks for the help. From the sound of it, a fan over the cpu (or cpu duct) seems to be the way to go. I'm leaning towards getting a new piece of acrylic to make a new window. Unfortunately, since I have a 120mm blowhole and a 120mm bottom intake, I don't have anymore 120mm fans (unless I decide to have a big hole in my case with no fan attached to it). Maybe I'll put one of my 80mm's on the side blowing onto my CPU and one blowing right onto my video card? I could wait until I start my summer job to get another 120mm fan, but as of now, I'm officially a dead broke college student, and although I might be able to squeeze some money out of my parents for gas, they won't be buying me case fans.

***Yep, me_john85, you're exactly right with the intake and exhaust placement. I'm assuming you're referring to Big Akita's recommendation of a 120mm intake on the side. Oh, and outstanding work with paint. It looks like you've found your calling in life

Yes one fan over each the CPU and Video card is a good start, You can pick up a 120MM 70-85CFM fan for:
$8.95 at Xoxide.com
$5.00 @ PCMods.com
$6.00 for black and $8.00 for Green, Red, or Blue @ Openlinx.com

Edited for vBcode fix
