Question is it possible to increase rpm?

not sure if this has been asked before so here goes

is there any way to increase the rpm of a 120mm fan currently at 1200rpm ?
it doesnt matter if it has its life shortened.
the reason i ask is that it looks good in my rig but i need more cfm

Sure you can overvolt them, but you'd need a power supply with variable voltage adjustment over 12V. Easier to buy a new fan....they are among the cheapest parts on a PC.

He's right though. For the cost of a 12 piece chicken dinner, you could be the proud owner of a brand spanking new variable speed fan.

As mentioned above, you can try to overvolt it. Check if your fan can handle 17V. connect the + to the 5V rail and the - to the -12V. DON'T do this while your fan is in your case and DON'T do it while anything else is plugged in. Test it on a spare PSU if possible.
You have to be willing to accept the fact that it may fry your fan.

There's a very funny (but working) guide on doing just this at Afrotech. Make sure and check out the rest of the site for some good laughs...although they are not good and wholesome mods for the squeamish.
