Default Quick airflow question....

First my setup: ( the relevant part at least)

Shuttle AN35/N Ultra
Swiftech MCX462V HSF w/ 92mm fan
Fortron PN series w/ 120mm fan at bottom
one 80mm fan in front of case
mid-tower case

The question is this.... since the PSU sits only about 1/4 inch above the HSF fan, do you all think thay are fighting too much for air?
If so would a blowhole on the top or a rear fan below the PSU be the best solution, or something different? (besides water..... not ready for that step just yet)
Thanks in advance!

Fighting for air? Maybe, but I'm guessing the PSU fan may actually be drawing cooler air up through the case, giving the CPU cooler air than if the exhaust was somewhere else (i.e., the hot air coming off the heatsink is exiting through the PSU instead of recirculating through the heatsink fan).

I know you know this, but to keep the case coolest, it's best to establish a clear pathway for the airflow -- entering at the lower front of the case and exiting at the top or the upper back (the "elegant" solution, as lcpiper would say).

So if you have a spot for the exhaust fan already, you could try putting one in and measure "before" and "after" temps. Theories are great and all, but numbers are better!

Cool, that is what I suspected but wanted to make sure. Unfortunately, I only have a spot for a 60mm fan in the rear of the case as it is an older case. You can bet it will get chopped after I get a new case as I just got this one up and running recentlyafter being down for nearly 2 months on my home rig. Maybe once I start taking it for granted again I'll rip out her guts again.

I'd say youre most likely better off having that PSU fan there vs. not having any exhaust fans at all in the case.
The area below the PSU can usually pocket alot of hot air if there isnt a fan near by to circulate it.

You could try mounting a 60mm fan in that rear spot you speak of as an intake fan, and see if it helps your temps out.

Duh.....now there's an idea I didn't think of. Thanks Jinx.
*I know I got some extra fans ripped out of PSUs around here somewhere*

You can have top mounted blow holes as well, hell you have enough junk there to make something. If you need any fans bro, say the word I'm overflowing with them.

the word...........

I got a 120mm fan at work a couple of dats ago but didn't notice til I got home that it is a 24 volt fan rather than 12. I haven't researched enough yet to find out if it will work without damaging the PSU.
If you have any 120s that would be great as I need one for the front but 80 or 92 would be cool also to use for blowholes or intake if you don't have any 120s.
Thanks for the offer bro!

That fan will run fine at 12 volt. slower than 24 volts but it might be better and quieter. Try it out and let me know what you exactly need. I have 80's and a couple 120s.
