| I have a Athnon XP 2100+ with factory heatsink and fan on it with 1 80mm side fan, and 1 80mm rear fan for exhaust. I'm sure 51 degrees not being pushed is not normal. What do I need to do? add another fan on the front, or change out my factory heatsink and fan? Sorry, im a n00b when it comes to cooling... ![]() DO NOT GO ANY FURTHER. DUMB THREAD. PLZ NO MORE COMMENTS. I ALREADY FEEL DUMB ENOUGH FOR STARTING THIS THREAD WHEN I WAS A NOOB. thx. Last edited by crazyjackcracker; 08-April-04 at 07:02 PM.. | ||

| Hmmm take a flathead screwdriver and chip off old thermal paste? I wouldnt suggest doing that to your core, if you want to get the old stuff off get some 600 grit sandpaper and LIGHTLY take it off. The slk-900a rocks and is a great heatsink but you might wanna look into a better cpu fan for that matter instead of just sticking as many fans in your rig as possible. If your more interested in cooling your processor than you are your hearing than id suggest the 92mm vantec tornado. Right now with my 2500 barton being under full load my temps are 35 deg celcius. | ||

| only problem with acetone is when people hear that they think "NAIL POLISH REMOVER!!! Cool, my mom/sis/dad?!?! has some of that" nail polish remover can contain weird fragrant chemicals and other crap. But yes, unscented good old acetone will work. what i used ot get compound off my CPU last night. | ||

| ...first you take skydiving lessons, then once you have made a couple of runs take out the chip in mid flight..then to clean it, suggest using some type of indangerd animal fure..carefully buff it before you have to pull your rip cord....talk about retarted..use your tshirt and your fingernail..there you go..put the sandpaper away lmao.. | ||

For a good comparison of a Stock vs Aftermarket (SLK 947u) cooler, check out this detailed review of the 2500+ Mobile. They also did it with a twist..They turned down the core voltage to 1.125v and underclocked it I was surprised when they were able to run at 600MHZ with no fan on either cooler and still Fold http://www.sudhian.com/showdocs.cfm?aid=504 | |||||||||||||||||||||||||

| Apex Techie I | Skip the SLK and go for the Swiftech MCX462-V. It is a little pricey but it's constructed with the Highest Quality around, Works Great and it looks Pimp. And I have personally had a very bad experience with the quality of the SLK series of heatsinks. If you go for the SLK, then buy some sandpaper and a small pane of glass and lap the base it make sure it's flat. This is always a good idea with any new heatsink but after installing the Swiftech MCX462-V on dozens of computers I have yet to see one that needed lapping. | |

| Dude, lay off the !!! there's a period on your keyboard too. You didn't say scratch it off the heatsink though. Easy mistake to make, especially with all those !!!'s. Besides...all a good thermal compund will do is lower the temp 1-2 degrees. For a stock AMD heatsink. 51*C is not bad at all. It's not great, but that's why companies like Zalman and Swiftech are doing so well. | ||
