Default different temp readings?

I have a Asus a7v333 motherboard for an amd processor. When I restart the computer and check the bios temperature, it says something around 28-30 degrees celcius for my cpu. But in windows, the Asus probe utility says that my cpu is at 40 degrees celcius. I have never seen the asus probe read below 40 degrees.

What's going on with this? I saw somewhere that some motherboards monitors are way off. Anyone know how far the a7v333's readings are off by? I got watercooling now and was expecting a temperature drop but when I took a look at the temps in windows, they were still the same . ..

Historically, Asus Probe is very innaccurate. Download Motherboard Monitor (Google for MBM5). It will report your bios temps in windows to see how they compare.

Also, your bios temp on boot up will always be lower than the temp in windows ......... for the same reason that are car never overheats in the driveway on the way out ...... it hasn't done anything yet.

Here's the same basic problem on a different mobo from ASUS' Support FAQ:

Quote:
I found the CPU temperature reported by PC-probe is lower than the temperature reported by BIOS on my A7V600. Which one is correct?

Basically, CPU temperature in BIOS and Windows maybe different, it's due to system loading different in BIOS and Windows. However, if you found the CPU temperature in PC-probe is much lower than in BIOS on A7V600, please try to update PC-probe to ver2.21.02 or later

i downloaded motherboard monitor and it jacked up my cpu's temp up to 110 degrees celcius . . . lucky thing that my roommate was in the room when the alarm went off so he could turn it off.
uninstalled it and no more problems.
I felt my waterblock and it was pretty hot and the water throughout the system was heated also.

You got to be kidding. This is a joke post, right? For the record, which sensor did you set up in MBM for your CPU? And don't answer 1, 2 or 3.

For the record enko ..... motherboard monitor does not heat anything up. It simply reports the motherboard data into windows.

You simply had the wrong sensor configured.

thanks for the polite response putwig, unlike someone else . . .

sorry if i didn't know how to use the program right but did that really require that kind of sarcasm on your part bigakita? these forums are supposed to help people out. its the first time i used the program. you could have just told me that it wasn't a problem and i had the wrong thing configured . ..

hmm i'm still wondering what caused my computer to have a jump in temps. the waterblock felt a lot warmer to the touch then its supposed to. must of been something else but the only thing that i changed in my computer was the ram . . .

You're right, I could have. I didn't. Stop whining.

When something so basic that could be solved with a simple google search stumps someone, I tend to get sarcastic. I abhor folks so lazy that they refuse to help themselves.

As a matter of fact, the MBM site explains everything you needed to know, but you obviously didn't even bother to read it.

110C. 230F are pretty much the same thing. Didn't it occur to you that those temps if accurate would have exceeded your preset shutdown temp?
Hell, it might have been high enough to cause the coolant in your system to boil.
I'll bet you haven't read one article or post on Computer boil-over
And even the softest, girlyest hands can't be used as temperature probes.
Sometimes "AIR" cooling has it's place...Not as entertaining, but safer none the less...
