| ok, We all know how very importnat it is too keep our high tech internals nice and cool so they perform better. And one thing that really bites performance is when your PC gets all dusty inside. I was thinking that when i get my new case. How could i rig up, or find a filter that will keep dust accumulation minimal inside the PC case? Share some of your mods, or ideas. | ||

| One of my biggest problems would be the pressure sucking things in at all available entry points :S right now my case is nasty (not cleaned house in a while) and its not only centered around the fans (or was I cleaned them when I changed leds) but every crevice on the front, sides and back are pulling dust in.... I am gonna have to put my whole case in a large ladies stocking to keep out dust... anyone got any suggestions for sealing up a Chieftec Dragon? I have been meaning to do it but maybe if I have some idea of what I need to do I will get started.. | ||

| OK as it stands I am usein the stock fan possitions for the Chieftec Dragon with an Antec vented side panel... I have the front 2 and side panel as intake... and the rear 2 as exaust along with the PSU's (antec) dual exaust fans... there there is the CPU and GPU fans but there of little concern with the pressure... I will work on moving some fans around later on but I still plan on sealing the case up somewhat because of another idea I had... Thanks Anon... | ||

| Sealing the case isn't necessary, if you get a setup that has balanced airflow with slightly more intake than exhaust you end up with positive pressure. What does that mean? That all your ports and holes will no longer be collecting dust. There is more air inside the case than outside. Positive airflow is no problem, just have more fans as intakes than exhausts. The trick is the airflow. Anybody can slap fans on a case and get good pressure, but there is a path that the air has to take to enter and exit the case. You need to visualize the flow to get good air in towards the bottom and side of the case so that it flows across the hard drives, vid card, and proc, but exit near the PS and towards the top of the case where heated air naturally goes. Visualize the air, feel the air, be the air, Grasshopper. | ||

| I think the easiest solution for you would be to just add another front intake (I'm pretty sure the dragons have room for 3 in front). That should suffice, given your filters aren't too obstructive. (P.S.---I hope you are using these already otherwise you'll have dust regardless of what kind of pressure you have in your case. Positive pressure is recommended because you can regulate exactly where the air enters your case, and that's where the filters come in....) Another similar, but more destructive option would be to clear restrictions on the intake sides of the intake fans. This means cutting out holes in the front bezel of your case. Either way, I wouldn't recommend making your case air-tight. I can't see that being at all beneficial to your fans. | ||

| I'll back Anon up that the sealing of a case is a bad thing. The only exception is if you were doing a refrigeration type cooling, but for air, no go. Remember that it isn't the air, it's the flow that that you want to maximize. Sealing the case would screw your cooling. EDIT: I got to thinking, it would also be a major pain in the ass every time you wanted to crack the case open. How were you planning on sealing it? | ||

| I am not sure how I would seal it if I did.. The main reason I was thinking about sealing it is for a lil something I was concidering doing.. similar to Zen's ghetto monster duct from outside to the PC.. but I was gonna go for a more sealed solution so I didnt freeze my ____ off and it would be more controled... but I see your points on the just air being bad to seal PC up.. and no I have no form of filter.. atleast not for a while until a "natural" filter forms.. lol but then after that its kinda pointless anyway.. I will mess around with my fans some later.. will post a pic of my airflow in a sec... and btw as far as I can tell without modding the front there is only 2 fan mounts.. (and modding it, which I cant do right now for lack of a home for my rig and lack of money for supplies... is out of the equation ) Thanks for the input guys.. | ||
