Default What for fan control?

Well, on the FF7mod, I have a dilemma.

I'm going to be running a fair amount of different sized fans, with differing uses (2x60 HDD coolers, 1x120 front duct, etc) and my original plan, to clean up wiring so I can do all my internal effects, was to individually resistor the fans to put them at the speed I want them. The reasoning was thus-no wires from a fan controller, no extra knobs to hide, and the least I have to put in the front of the case, the better. I have things planned for it.

As it stands, I'm having to use a Gladiator single IDE cable for the DVD drive and SATA for the HDDs just to clear my ATX cable in. I have a 1 1/2 x 2 1/2 (approx) hole to route all of those in. I'm not dremeling it out, I like it there. It lets me do cool EL wire effects up top and still have all my spectacular lighting at the bottom.

Any ideas? Some say that I may not have the wisest route...

What I said before, is some kind of master control for them all, using a variable resistors. Like those little 3 inch slide ones. Hide it somewhere on the side or back. My 2.5cents.

Doesn't sound like you have anything drawing a lot of current. One of the cheap little 3 1/2" bay controllers would suit you just fine. And it wouldn't have to be mounted at the front. You could put it in the top panel or back panel if you have room or a ton of other places.

http://www.islproducts.com/prod/pots...atedSeries.htm illuminated slide resistors, install them in the top of the case, easily hidden wires, and you can use the case design to hide them

So any advice as to how to clean up the wiring that inevitably becomes a mess?

Do you have any room to make a junction type box? have a master line into it, and all the fans connect to it? And put the slide resistor in series on the main power line..

TekXoID is coming through with individual temp sensors that wire directly to the fans...

There's also the route of temp sensor fans, which would save me burned fingers and cursing.

But, all of this is being chased because space is at a premium. If I can't hide it, it don't go in, ya know? There's a lot of lighting effects that have to be hidden, so most of my free space goes to them.

I think now the sensor fans are the best idea going, now that I think of it...

heres how I hide my wires... there's a few things you can do

1) for the fans in the front, you can route the wire throught the front bezel, just drill a hole into the bezel, then another at the top (to your PSU or where ever you wnat it to go) ... that's the method I use for connecting the power to the Fans

2) any wires that are really low, ie, like the power wire to Radeon 9800's, I would drill a hole to the bottom of the case, (where the connector for the Card is) then I take a PSU wire, and drill a hole into the back of the case (no one ever looks there) and route it throught the hole on the bottom...(you might have to extend the wire, but lil heat shrink and sleeving will hide that)

3) run your wires under the mobo (make sure there are NO EXPOSED wires)

4) hide everything in the HDD/ Floppy place

5) run the wires to the side of the HDD and 5.25' Drive bay Rack...

I would suggest you put the slider right under the front bezel, cuase the front 60mm fan's could be esily hidden there, and the back fans could be routed on the back and under the case

It's a good point ... you're going to have a lot of gubbins on the outside of the case K, so why not make some of it functional as well ?
