| I have the X-Dreamer mid-ATX case I'm putting together for a friend. It has the cool front temp readout for the CPU temp. Do I stick that little flat probe between the heatsink and CPU. It has a kind of plastic covering the flat probes, that stays on there right? There are no directions with the case that explain it. Thanks. | ||

| Dude, I killed an athlon because I was stooopid. I put the probe between the die and the heatsink: CRUNCH! I think the best spot, at least on an AMD is to slide it into the crack between the cpu and heatsink....you know the gap made by the 4 pads on the corners...and slide that probe in there until it touchesthe die. Although you could probably place it there with a little glue to hold it in place while you put the heatsink on. | ||

| ya definitly not inbetween the die and hs. but what you could do is what slider said or if you dont mind voiding your warrenty on your mobo, drill/cut/dremel out a piece of the zif socket and put the wire through there and put it directly under the die. one sec ill try to find the articly on that. edit :: damnit i just cant think of the site, but if someone knows or has seen the article will you please post it because i just cant remember and i have come up short in google Last edited by Dimazz; 06-November-03 at 10:27 PM.. | ||

| Direct Cool Hoe | MetallicaSigma, Where are you comming from? How is it going to kill the AMD? If that were the case, then I'm running a dead AMD huh? G, Brah Slider is 100% correct... I trimmed the plastic back so the thermosistor touches the side of the DIE. A piece of scotch tape, or a dab of hot glue will hold it there while you install the HSF. I found it to read about 6C cooler than putting it under the CPU. I figure the mosfets and all give you a hotter reading beings they are so close to the Ziff. The probe touching the DIE is going to give you the most accurate reading we can get with this type of themometer. ![]() Last edited by ZENNZZO; 12-November-03 at 07:24 PM.. | |
