Default Ghetto air cooling

Ive been wanting to post this some time, my case fans are too weak and dont move air well enough. So i cut 2 more holes and installed fans and still system temp is around 65c. So what is a man with 2 dollars to do? Go tot he local dollar store and buy a mini desk fan for 2 bucks. I took off the side of my case and put that there and now my temps are around 46c I was just wondering if anyone else ever rigegd a very ghetto cooling system to their puter. Maybe i should send this to Afrotech

Been done before Mot - in the old galleries their was a rig with a _pink_ desk fan aimed at the open side.

The fact that you're getting much lower temps with the side panel off makes me think there is something seriously wrong with your airflow ... like you have all the fans blowing in or something

Ive seen box fans attached to the side of computers before. I have also seen a computerbutted up against a window unit air condioner. Heck I even have an 80mm case fan hung next to my video card with zip ties. I think everyone has done something ghetto to their system at one time or another...lmao!

i think i dont have a major airflow problem, i have 4 front intakes, 1 blowhole, 2 side panel fans exhasts, and one rear exaust. I figure the aire flows from the front and gets drawn over the certain parts because of the suction of the exhasts. Maybe its my terrible wireing that blowcks all the air from going where it is supposed to. Also, i am the kings of ghettoness, its all about when your out of screws so you ducktape fans on That isnt there anymore but still i tihnk my penny ram sinks on my radeon 9600 pro shows my cheapness(complements of afrotech)

I would think about making those side panel fans intake rather than exhaust. Seems like they may currently be "stealing" some of the air that should be directed at the mobo and GPU.

EDIT: oh yeah, it would DEFINATELY help to clean up your wiring, especially if you are still using ribbon IDE cables. If you dont want to spend the money on rounded IDEs, then just accordian-fold the ribbons and use rubber bands to hold the folds if you want to remain truly ghetto-fabulous.

Hi amd', if no-ones already said "welcome to PR", let me be the first to do so

Sounds like we're practically neighbours

I had a peep at your rig pics, have you posted in the gallery here yet? I've got to say your power wiring is pretty rough though - I hope you stick around for a bit as I've got an article on psu power loom sleeving/tidying coming up soon

What ? Resurrecting a 2 month old, only periphally related thread ?

You didn't specify what state those temps are ... are they in full in frag mode or idle ?

There's room for improvement there, but if those are high load temps I don't think you have anything to worry about

Yes. When you post in a thread thats a few months old, you "resurrect" it.

And is it the default hsf that came with your CPU? Or an aftermarket one? If its the default one, pretty decent temps, if its an aftermarket, not too hot there. Its best to try to get yer CPU under 50C on full load imho

Uhh... HSF is the heatsink/fan unit. Meaning the big metal thing that gets slapped on top of the white goop.

The default HSF is the one that comes when you buy a new processor.
