| I really want to sleeve my PSU. IÂ’m a little unsure about how much sleeving and heat shrink to get. How much of each size do you think would be enough? 1/4" ½†1/8Ââ€. Also my motherboard cable is already sleeved. If you need more info I will be glad to tell you. Thanks for any suggestions! | ||

| Maybe its just my enermax PSU, but I used at least 15 feet of 1/4" on it and 3 or 4 feet of 1/4" heatshrink. 1/8" heatshrink and sleeving is excellent for fan wires (The end connectors are easily removed with a paperclip). Just so you know, "clean-cut" sleeving is BS, regular PET sleeving works fine, you can even use scissors. I re-sleeved the motherboard connectors because the P4 ATX connector came bundled with a few unnessesary legacy connectors, and for the P4 ATX connector I used 1/2", though 1/4" would work fine. Check out CableOrganizer.Com ( Sleeving link & heatshrink link ) they sell both cheap. ![]() | ||

| I just used a really small hex wrench I had laying around, but a drill bit or other similar sturdy, thin object would work just as well. Look for the smallest size they have over at Home Depot if you don't already have one. Should be alot cheaper than those overpriced Pim Removers. | ||

I got a pin remover from SVC for $7.99, though it is makes the process much faster, a paper clip will work fine. A few tips... Don't forget to push the molex barb's on each pin back out AFTER the sleeving and heatshrink is on. Do not heatshrink until you have the molex connector back on. Then which you would slide it as close to the connector as possible and then shrink the heatshrink. A lighter will work fine, just keep moving over all sides of the heatshrink and don't keep the lighter on over 5 seconds total or you'll be smoking the heatshrink. Lastly, on molex connectors with two sets of wires coming out, one from the psu and the other to the next molex connector on the line, on those you will want to slide the heatshrink over both wires where they seperare. See attached picture. However a drill bit would have to be <1MM or smaller otherwise it would be too big to be usable. | |||||||||||||||||||||

| Direct Cool Hoe | Here is the cheapest Molex tool in town... Scavenge a "Parker-9CB" ink cartridge, Dermmel of the ends and flush with rubbing alcohol. I put a tear drop shaped piece of acrylic on the end of mine, Anything will do, and "heatshrink" it for grip...works great and you wont bend the sh!t out of the pins either ...slide it on the pins, it depresses the tabs and the pins slide out faster than you can say..."where's my allen wrench?" And here is something that might help you with sleeving too... http://www.pcapex.com/modules.php?s=...icle&artid=159 Most of all, have fun, and enjoy... Hey Tek, Tell me those arn't Pink rounded cables!! ![]() Last edited by ZENNZZO; 29-October-03 at 07:53 PM.. | |
