Default intakes and exhausts

i have some 3 extra fans on hand and is going to use them. i currentle dont have a blowhole nor a side fan. i am thinking of 2 blowholes and a side fan right in the middle of the bio-hazard symbol on my case. add on to that, there are currently: 2 front fans and a rear fan. which ones should be intake and which ones should be exhaust? thank you all

Anon posted a good guide on airflow:
http://forums.pcapex.com/showthread....hlight=airflow

I would suggest 2 on the side being intakes, 1 on top being exhaust.

Hmm...that symbol interferes with the 2 intakes on the side idea. So scratch that idea unless you wanna mess up the side. Putting the fan in the middle might cool the cpu down a bit (if its located there), but prolly wont have an effect on the agp/pci cards.

Well, here is my setup

120mm Sunon fan on top
2 Coolermaster 80mm red LED fans on the side
1 80mm fan intake
1 80mm fan out

That doesn't include the fans on the power supply.

It would help to know the size and rated CFM of these fans...but I'm guessing they are all 80mm?

My first question is does your PSU have 2 fans in it (1 intake and the other exhaust) in addition to the other case fans you listed?

If it does and all your fans are rated at the same CFM, then you will have to choose between positive and negative pressure (there will be an odd number of fans (7) contributing to the air going into and out of your case). Personally, I'd go for the pos.

Also, my second question would be....what kind of motherboard do you have, because it's layout will affect the effectiveness of a side mounted fan? (If you have the resources, just post a pic....that would be easiest) Putting a fan in the middle of that biohazard symbol will probably screw up the look of the design a bit, and like gorked said, won't help cool the PCi or AGP slot(s). It may, however blow right over the NB, CPU, and RAM, if your mobo has a similar layout as mine, so it may still be beneficial to you, especially if you have only passive NB cooling.

Get back to us with this info and we'll be able to help you out some more.

well since we are on this topic... I have a W/C setup... the fans i currently have are:

1 Side 120MM intake
1 Front 120MM intake
2 Exhaust on back 120MM..

what i am wondering, is if i add more fans and have good airflow, will that help out my Water cooling setup?

Where is your rad? If it is inside your case, getting more circulation of cooler air is always better, with 4 x 120mm fans....I don't think it will make any difference in your water temps whatsoever.

if your rad is external......no......not even if you had hurricane-force winds blowing through your case would it make your water temps any lower because:

1.) WC tubing is usually some form of plastic, whether it be silicon, tygon, vinyl, etc...none of them are very high on the chart for most heat-conductive substances.

2.) The surface area of the tubing compared to that of the radiator is very small.

its on the back, its a Swiftech 676 radiator...
its as long as two 120mm fans as u can see from this pic...the 2 120mm fans in the rear of my computer are right on the back side of the radiator which is outside the case. and pushes air thru the radiator

A water cooled case absolutely needs good case airflow and ventilation.

You still have a GPU, GPU memory, System memory, northbridge, southbridge, moffsets, pci cards, etc, all dependent on a gentle breeze for cooling.

There is a circulating myth that water cooling negates the need for fans ...... hogwash! But it does allow you to turn down the speed.

I know that my overall CPU temps record lower with good case ventilation. The mosfett's alone are smoking hot when pulling high O/C's, for sure hotter than the area under the CPU.
Cooling is cooling guys. Everybody in the case is happy when they are running full tilt boogie and cooled properly, be it Air, Water, Cryo or Submersion...

so after reading through the forums: the exhausts should : back(1x for now, maybe 2x later), and blowholes(2x). the intakes should be the front(2x), and the sides(2x)( im going get smaller fans so i could go into the unused portions of my case.) and my psu is intake i believe. i chose positive pressure to keep evil dust out
