| Apex Techie Lite | Alright.... Now my computer is running at an acceptable temperature, but with one problem. Its way too goddamn loud! Dreyco informed me that noise mostly comes from VGA cooling. I have a radeon X1600pro for my card. Is there some reccommended and cheap cooling unit that would work. Also, what are other things that i can do in order to reduce noise? | |

Well there is a couple things you can do such as using fan dampners such as these here they also make them for 92mm and 120mm fans or you change the fans and get some ultra quiet ones, you can also get dampeners for Hardrives and your PSU like these for the PSU, and even you case such as what MNPTECH does with some his case he sells here.

| For quiet cooling I've always gone with zalman products. What CPU cooler are you running? Is your chipset cooler active or passive? Case fans? PSU fan? Basicly, just figure out what is making the most noise. I like to do this by stopping the fan momentarly, and comparing it to the sound of when other fans are stopped instead. This probably isn't good for the fan, but it is an easy way to figure out what is making a ton of noise. Chipset coolers (the active ones at least) have been known to make more noise than a tornado, surprised the crap out of me how much quieter my PC was when a passive solution was applied. After all that, if you get super picky and have some money to spend, you can get some sound deadening material and mess around installing that. MNPCTECH.com does sell some as well. | ||

ive got a zalman somethign for CPU cooler, im not sure of the model number, but that one is pretty quiet. im thinking dreyco was right with my vga cooler. it was also recommended that i upgrade to 120 mm fans instead of 80mm to reduce noise.

| Fan controllers are good for controlling noise as well. But anything obstructing the flow of air into a fan can make it noisier too... I removed many of my fan grills to quiet my rig down. And it's probably already been noted, but larger, lower RPM fans are generally quietier as well. You certainly have many options. | ||

Might look at a Zalman VF700 or VF900 series cooler, or the suitable model of Arctic Cooling ATI Silencer or Accelero.
