Default I need more fans.

My case has 1x120mm intake, and 1x120mm exhaust. The intake fan doesn't create much airflow due to the dust filter (which i really need because my house is proper dusty) and also having a pretty small case, I'm guessing air probably has to take a pretty windy path to the CPU HSF.

Anyway what I was wondering is - will installing one of these give me better case airflow? I'm aware of the concept of case positive/negative airflow - I was under the impression and that this would = positive airflow, which is bad (?), but I'm also thinking this would provide a good supply of cool air to my memory and CPU if I install in in my top three drive bays. Any input appreciated.

I'd drill a blowhole exhaust/side panel intake if I could, but alas, no power tools and no money to buy any either. I'll nick some off my Dad come summer.

Positive pressure is my perferred cooling set up. Basicly you can use filters and have it work. Temps are the same in my experience too.

If you got the room for it, I'd use it.

Yup id go with positive pressue, I got 1x 120mm, 1x 80mm intake and 1x 80mm exhaust (2 inc PSU) which gives me great temps.

Be aware that if you mount your harddrives behind that intake (like I have with my Coolermaster 4in3 device) that you won't really be putting much more cool air into the system as the air will pick up heat from the harddrives on its way in.

Nah, if you remember, my hard disk is mounted above my bottom intake fan. I'm sticking this in my top three spare drive bays.

Yeah man my case stays nice and cool, I have 2 front 80mm for intake 2 for Exhuast, stock!

I cut 3 120MM in the top for my rad i have 6 120mm blowing air into the case through the rad, Yes i know! But it works great and the rad dont heat up that much, I cut one 80mm on the backside of the case through the motherboard tray for exhaust, And 1 on the side of the case on the side of the vid card aiming at the southbridge, And you always got the PSU with the 120Mm sucking out of the case too I have like over 500CFM going into the case and about 180 being froced out! But it runs very cool i have beter temps then alot of people that run a 360Mm rad,

Not possible. Axial fans, for our applications, don't compress air.

Ratchetfps, Anon was pointing out the impossibility of Mats statement, not debating his fan configuration.

Entirely correct that his statement is impossible with what he has stated so far but just for fun...

The statement isn't entirely false if you have vent locations, and you're only expressing the airflow in from intakes and airflow out from exhaust and leaving exiting air from vents not expressed.

ADD: Series configuration usage of axial fans has a place, but it definatley doesn't double the cfm no matter what you do. How I read his statenement he has 3x2 banks of 120s on his radiator (three on top, three bottom) while it helps overcome impedence of the fins - you still will not get more airflow than one of the 120s in open air rating, even in series.

It's why I've become a zealous fan (and pun user) of parallel configurations for best exchange rates in PC enclosures to sound level..... unless like in MattsPC's scenario with a rad acting as intake there is substantial impedence for the intake. With fans I've found my new favorite hobby - they're complex as a whole, for something simple looking.

Well i guess your right about the fans doubling CFM that was kind of dumb for me to say , I mean if both fans were back to back both pushing 80CFM into the case i guess it would only be 80CFM so im sorry i retract my statement! But yes i have the 6 120s as intake fans down threw the rad into the case
