| I came across this HD cooler. It also controls up to 4 fans and stuff. It looks pretty neat. Does anybody have this one? Are there any better hard drive coolers than this one, worth considering? http://www.coolermaster.com/index.ph...+CoolDrive%204 | ||

| Direct Cool Hoe | I have the cooldrive3, The difference is the 4, has that trick fan controller for a faceplate. The 3 ,which shares the same HDD cooler, has a large, finned aluminum heatsink, and a thermal pad that touches the entire top of the HDD. IMO, there isn't a better one out there, given you have good air flow in your case. | |

| Direct Cool Hoe | Anon, You really think that isn't enough air flow to move the extracted heat from the HDD off the HS and into the case air flow? I'll betcha a buck I've got a cooler HDD, with that little fan and it's FULL sized HS, than you could get with a "fan alone" system or a H/S system that just touches the edges... c'mon...TeKXoiD, won't bet me...you? | |

Rule of thumb: If its under 10CFM, it does nothing but collect dust and whine while its at it. Period. I'll bet you a MM of heatshrink that I am right. ![]() I am not saying the CoolDrive doesnt cool the drive, its thanks to the hefty heatsinks that it does that, the fan is a joke though. | |||||||||||||||||||||

| Like Tek said...it's mostly the heatsinks doing the work there....my farts move more air than 9CFM. Zen....you may have a cooler HDD than mine, but how much of a performance gain do you think you're getting for all that extra money than me and my 80mm fan stuck right in front? ...and how many extra HDD's can you cool with that as opposed to a simple large fan mounted on the front of the drive cage? The simple fact is HDDs are mechanical and as long as enough heat is being dissipated that the HDD can function properly, there is no need for additional cooling. It's not like you're going to get some extra RPM's or 3 sec faster seek times by hooking a prometia up to the sucker. (Don't try that) Sure I'll bet you a dollar Zen....that for the same price you could get some surplus heatsinks and an 80mm fan and have the same or better temps than that overpriced piece of sh!t there.....and save a bundle for cooling components that would give you a much better return on your investment. Gambling and complusive computer modding....you better not let your wife catch a whiff of this.....she might just leave you. ![]() | ||

| lmao anon, you've hit the nail on the head. But I do what to point out that running a hard drive cooler promotes a longer product life expectancy, therefore any decent cooling will help, but is absolutely unnecessary. I want to cool my raptor because...its a raptor. ![]() $2.50 - 3.5" to 5.25" conversion plates $3.40 - 24CFM strap-on hdd cooler There, a $5.90 solution to a $118 problem. | ||
