| Why exactly would a nation want to join the WTO? I've only heard the drawbacks, namely that a body with no accountability whatsoever, can say your trade practices are unfair and demand you roll 'em back. Reminds me, ISTR someone like Antigua was trying to get the WTO to declare that American bans on online gambling was a forbidden trade practice. Where did that go? I actually would love to see the Russians not back down on this. Only a handful of nations are net content exporters. The United States being the big one. All other nations have less to gain from maintaining strong copyright than they'd have to gain from 49 cent bootleg copies of Windows on every PC in the nation. I'm amazed that many third-world nations don't realise this. Especially China, who could use a lax copyright law as an excuse not to deal with the problems they have enforcing it. ![]() | ||
