Ah, the Game Boy. Ever since its humble, grayscale beginnings over 15 years ago, it has managed to fend off all comers when it comes to handheld gaming consoles. Arguably most popular of all has been the Game Boy Advance. For the first time, though, Nintendo faces some serious competition from Sony and its PSP.
Nintendo's strategy for continued dominance of the handheld console market is two-pronged: making new products and making old products new. We've seen the new: the Nintendo DS has been out for nearly a year and seems to be catching on. Recently, Nintendo launched the second prong of its strategy: the Game Boy Micro. The very small Game Boy Micro.
The Micro just looks so damn approachable. You can accessorize it, make it look how you want, get a nice screen, and not a whole lot of buttons. In fact, you can't look at it without wanting to touch it, not to mention play with it. The DS looks like a compact, and the PSP looks incredibly intimidating for someone who may not be that comfortable with technology. The Micro looks high-tech, but it doesn't seem to put people off. I had people who never tried videogames playing Mario Kart in no time.
Does the Micro uphold the good name of the Game Boy? More importantly, can you actually see what you're doing on that 2.9 in. LCD? Check out our review to find out.
