Before there was a 64-bit version of Windows XP, a handful of Linux distributions offered support for AMD's 64-bit Athlons. So when AMD began shipping the Athlon64 Mobile, it was only natural that Linux would follow the
CPU to the mobile computing platform.
Ars Technica looks at the LinuxCertified LC2464 64-bit Linux desktop, which comes with all the goodies you'd expect from a high-end laptop at a reasonable price. Plus, you can configure it with your choice of four distributions (and even a dual-boot Windows XP option, if that's your thing).
The LC2464 is fully loaded. It has three USB ports, a Firewire port, a headphone jack, a microphone jack, SPDIF output, an IR port, an ethernet jack, a modem jack, a parallel port, a
VGA port, an S-Video output port and a PCMCIA slot.
It also offers 802.11g as an add-on option and a 128MB ATI Radeon 9700 video card... along with ATI's (in)famous Linux drivers. See how the LC2464 stacks up.
