Stem cell research is a controversial topic, at least when embryonic stem cells are involved. This week, Science.Ars looks at some developments in South Korean stem cell research.
I’m revisiting the topic again this week, following the news of a breakthrough by scientists from Seoul National University. Last year the group reported the creation (registration required) of an human embryonic stem cell (hESC) line using somatic cell nuclear transfer  in effect they replaced the nucleus in donated oocytes (unfertilized egg cells) with that of a somatic cell.
As is usual with this line of research, the development will raise all sorts of ethical questions.
Science.Ars also reports on the discovery of a new species of monkey, a positive development from the devastation of last December's tsunami, and more.
