The public debate on this new branch of science continues around us. Recently, the National Academy of Sciences drafted ethical guidelines concerning stem cells. Although these are nonbinding, they have been welcomed around the US as a good framework for institutions to use in their ethics committees. This past Thursday, the President’s Council on Bioethics, a group set up in George W. Bush’s first term in office, has published its own report on stem cell research.
