Post Ars Technica // World Cyber Games: Part II

Charles Jade wraps up his coverage of the World Cyber Games with a look inside the Games. He looks at not only the competition, but the Cyberlympics Game Conference as well. The conference had different luminaries from the videogame industry talking about their the future of gaming on the PC and the console.
Some dead white philosopher once asked whether you would still have a pincushion if you took all the pins out. It turns out that an object stripped of all its meaningful characteristics is the console RTS. Tim Train matters to the RTS, having worked on titles like Civilization and Rise of Nations, so what the hell was he doing talking about bringing RTS games to consoles? It's like a genius in organic chemistry deciding to take up alchemy and turn lead into gold. Which is exactly the point. It turns out that strategy games account for something like a third of the PC game market, and strategy games have largely failed in translation to the console.
RTS and consoles? Uh... no thanks. At least there was the actual game competition. Jade had plenty of observations from the gaming floor as well, as well as quotes from the winners and losers.
"I did not think I would lose, but I did not think I could win."
It's the conclusion to our World Cyber Games coverage. Check it out.
