Default HWBot-friendly and Win98-friendly benches

So I've got a pile of spare bits (starring a 2.66GHz Northwood) and figured, since there are few of 'em on file, I could snag a few easy HWBoints by benching it.

But I've got Win98SE on it.

Now, it's very cool that this boots to desktop as fast as it takes my 4600+ on Win2000 to finish polling the SCSI drives at the boot screen... but I tried my usual pack of benchmarks, and they all bomb. wPrime, PiFast, and SuperPi all bomb within seconds. The machine is memtest86-stable, and the error messages are system bombs, not the "it gave a weird result" errors you'd expect from a clock or thermal issue.

So I'm forced to conclude these benches don't like Win98SE. Is this so?

I can, I suppose, load up 2000... but that will mean an evening sitting in front of the machine...

Sorry. Can't. Busy trying to get 3DMark06 to run on an ATI RagePro PCI.

I sold the Duron 1.6 machine that provided me those silver trophies, gotta get something else I can keep pulling cheap wins out on.

Actually, I have to resort to the RagePro (not the Rage 128 Pro, a different beast AFAICT) because all the AGP cards I have (including a 16Mb Voodoo3 1000) won't fit... I think it's cos they're all AGP 1x or 2x cards, and the board is low-voltage (4x/8x) cards only.

Even without a suitable video choice (man, that S3 Savage4 would probably be unchallenged for *months*), this should be worth a #1 and a #2 on prime scores alone.

It's so weird how fast a completely clean box (just the OS, not even drivers for anything loaded) boots. It depresses me that the 4600+ crunches Pi twice as fast but can't actually get me to work in the same timeframe.

I might have a Xtra AGP 1x or 2x MoBo

If not check these out "Old School"
Motherboards

Well, part of the interest is not spending money on "new" or even "refurbished" gear... if I see it in a dustbin or a computer graveyard, then I'm interested. I always figure it's a better value to buy that used PIII-450 box for a buck-fifty, cos I get a case to mod or part out (I'm collecting drive cages... ), a slot 1 mobo, and the CPU for my collection, than to actually buy a Slot 1 mobo for $20.

I thought the way the system worked, all the high scores in the world wouldn't displace the No. 1 Savage4 unless you had another Savage4.
