Default How do i copy emails from outlook?

Hello,

I just built my gf a new computer. I took her C drive out and put it in the new computer as D drive. She has all her saved emails in outlook (office xp) on D:

I want to copy everything (email, calender, remiders) from outlook on D: to C: where I have newly installed outllook (office xp) setup already.

how do I do this?

Thanks for any help you can give.

Should be 'import' options under the 'file' menu in Outlook

actually you just want to copy* the outlook.pst file from the d drive and overwrite the old one(if the old one is empty)

should be located in the documents and settings/admin(or what ever her user name was)/local settings/applicationdata/microsoft/outlook/outlook.pst

may be named something else but the file extension has been .pst since outlook 2000 atleast and contains all email and contacts. you can also just copy it to the C drive Delete the old .pst file on the C drive and next time you start up outlook it will ask you to create a new pst or select another.

Edit: there may also be a Archives.pst folder which is where emails are put if you never delete them and you allow autoarchiving to do its job.

well that would be if the drive was still in the old machine. but im assuming that its now a slave. but you should be able to go to D:\documents and settings\*user*\application data\HUGE STRING OF NUMBERS\outlook and then dig around in those dir and files for em.

you may need to unhide folders

the string of numbers was for outlook express, Outlook that is included with Office uses a single PST file for everything and is located where I said.

and if it where outlook express you would look for DBX files which are all the individual folders.

I move outlook around allot here at the office.

and yes you will need to unhide folders to see anything, so automatic to have all folders visible now heh. once again the path should be:

Root:/documents and settings/(user)/Local Settings/Application Data/Microsoft/outlook/1 or 2 pst files

Root being C or D respectively and (user) being either administrator or what ever name the local user was

Default sup!

Hey thanx you guyz for replying. I know this isn't the most interesting thread...heh. That is correct PokenHopen, it is outlook(office xp) not outlook express. I will look for this .PST file no prob...but you mean all I have to do is copy these one or two file to c: and overwrite the ones from the new install of outlook...nothing else need be done? What about the calendar and remiders..I need all that stuff. These are my gf's work email, contacts, calendar, remiders and there are thousands of files in there. She will kill me if I loose this stuff.

BTW - I have seen the DBX files but they may be the ones that came preinstalled for windows outlook express that she never used.

everything for outlook other then shortcuts is in the PST file including tasks reminders and calendar information. I say copy the file that way there is still a backup of the file on the D Drive. I also suggest backing up any information you move if not the whole hard drive(the old one) that way if anything happens you have a point to go back to.

This is also a bad thing cause it means if this 1 file gets corrupt you loose everything. good idea to back up the pst file regularly.

Default cool.

Got it man...thanx alot. I have read about this file being corrupted very easily due to size. She has between 1 and 2 gigs of stuff in outlook so I will make sure to back everything up before I start playing with it.

Thanx again-
Take care-
X

Just so you know also, 2GB is the max of a single pst prior to Outlook 2003. You will get corruption if you cross the barrier. Break it into multiple files if necessary.

Her .pst file is 1GB but I will pass that on to her so she can start archiving her old stuff.

Thanx
