i've had smart capable hard drives since 1998 now for my big question: is there a too to access the SMART info.

i've heard hwo smart will help to anticipate hd failure and such, but how can i tell?

any help woulb be great, ranting works too.

Heh smart only does its work when your drive truly ****s up, or is about to.
SMART=self monitoring yatta yatta yatta
The only time I've seen the screen was when I had fried my old fireball by crossing the molex on accident....rofl

SMART monitoring is built into the operating system. In Windows NT, 2000, or XP you can go into the Event Viewer, and if a hard drive is failing or about to fail, you will see messages listed from "Disk" as the source.
