Someone steal your laptop ????

I heard on the news this morning that in San Francisco, 1000 laptops are stolen every year.
Afterward they talked about a proggee I have enver heard of and I am just spreading the word.
CompuTracer I guess finds where your laptops is if it's stolen.

Seems formatting the hard drive would defeat the whole process.......thats what a decent thief would do right off the bat. Hell I do that when I buy old computers even when I have no reason. Just a though, if I was stealing your laptop it wouldnt do you any good.

Probably why they advertise it as 85% effective aaron. For those 15% of thieves that know a bit about computers.

Most thiefs are not well educated. Especially a thief that is stealing nickel and dime items. A hot laptop goes for what? $250, $500 MAX. How do you sell a hot laptop with no software? Most people don't have the recovery cd on them, and I doubt the common thief knows enough to actually format it, and install enough apps on it to make it sellable. Why even bother, I am sure they have it sold within a few days anyway.

Well if I stole a laptop it would be for me to have, since some people have some nice ones. But im not a **** like that and dont have the balls to do it. IBM is using fingerprint tech in their new models. However, there is a password bypass to it which defeats it

The thing is if they don't recover the laptop in 30 day they will pay you up to $1000. So even if it's formated you still get something out of it.

The common every day jackass that would steal your laptop would turn right back around and try to sell it in the news paper, yard sale, ebay or something like that. But like you said, that 15% of cleaver jackasses who know a bit about computers would take you for everything you worth, all that golden personal information thatÃ‚â€™s on your laptop.

I have the best protection against laptop theft, and that's myself, my laptop follows me everywhere if it isn't in my house....

When I have it in my car for whatever reason and walk into a store, the laptop comes in with me. Everywhere. And if you try to jack me for my sh*t you gonna get that slap to the face like a real PIMP.

I have the mantra that leaving your laptop some place where it can be stolen (out of your direct line-of-sight) is like leaving a BMW parked with the keys in the ignition and vanity plates that say STEAL ME. I'm with j-dogg, my laptop is permanently affixed to me.

my laptop has the best protection of all.. its a p1 166mhz... no one in there right mind would even want to steal it loll.. so i just leave it where ever i feel right.. on the car.. leave it at the ice cream store on a table for 30 minutes.. till i remmeber i forgot it, throw it at kids ... etc etc.. i still have it, so that works for me.. if u dont want someone to steal your stuff.. get soemthing that aint worth there time lol

I pay $25 dollars a year to get computer insurance added to my homeowners policy. That covers all my systems. I've never used it, but it covers theft of a laptop even outside the home. That's through USAA.

i think that it would be awsome if it self destructs. only if you can afford it and have all your info backed up and just use the lappy as a portable extention of your main machine. still the bastard will get what he deserves when he gets shards of PCB and plastic in his ass
