Default I find your lack of faith disturbing...

After just seeing that Yoda and Darth Vader are going to be in the new Soul Caliber game, it brings up a few points in my head.

In the world of fighting games, titles like Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, Dead or Alive, and of course Soul Caliber reign supreme. Yeah we’ve seen Hadoukens, swinging blades, kicks to the head, and all sorts of characters and combat. But one thing I’ve rarely seen, or rather seen only once is a Star Wars fighting game (The Episode II game does not count*). The one game is Masters of Teräs Käsi. This game wasn’t even that great with its bludgeon like lightsaber combat (or lack of lightsaber combat if you will). By the by, I haven’t seen any really GREAT Star Wars titles in a while.

But I digress, with only one Star Wars fighting game on the market, see great untapped potential I do. I think they really could put out a truly good 2D or 3D game.

While we’re on the topic of Fighting games, Street Fighter IV is also being release in the new future. Right now they’re on the path I think Mortal Kombat should’ve taken: 2D fighting platform with 3D art. Nothing beats a good Hadouken or Freezebolt.

So what do you think? Should there be more Star Wars fighting games? What would you like to see? More fighting titles in general? Should current fighters on the market take another direction?

Till next time,
Hadouken out!

*Episode II does not count; more as a adventure/movie game; not enough characters, needs Darth Maul, Fett, Solo.

I'd like to see some decent fighting games for the pc. And with it being relatively easy to codevelop for the 360 and PC I don't see a reason why not. I'd definitely love to be able to play Soul Caliber (which was my favorite game on the Gamecube) on PC.

This is a pretty lame thing to say, but I feel like for casual fighting fans, they've released enough to keep just about anybody happy. I'm not sure how much leeway there is for innovation between Dead or Alive, Guilty Gear, Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, Virtua Fighter, Tekken, Fatal Fury, Clayfighter etc.

Competative players will certainly feel differently and since I love the existence of any niche gaming community whether I'm in it or not, I support new games. However most players never get to the point where cancels, air combos, recoveries and reversals are remotely considered, they just low-kick, jump-kick and uppercut and see how far they go. And at this stage in the game, you could throw in Mickey Mouse and it would still only be entertaining for a few minutes.

Of course, by the time I'm done writing this I've realized I've forgotten about games that break the mold: Smash Brothers, Power Stone etc. And I guess I could see Star Wars going in a more environment-exploring direction like those.

Smash Brothers is by far the GREATEST fighting game in years. It makes moves ridiculously simple, and fun for everybody to play. Casual or Hardcore.

There once was a soldier at Ft Lost in the Woods, who has a PS2, he played when he could... :angrygame

Then I just got over console games, period. Sold it, and have never looked back...

Fighting games for me went out back with Mortal Kombat, and the only reason I even played that was because my college roommate at the time was a MK aficionado...

I know there are a few fighting games for PC, but they don't hold my interest much if at all...

I'm with GrandpaNoob on this. I just never found fighting games interesting. I got
tired of combo keys and stuff like that with the 1st Mario Game back with the 1st
Nintendo consule. I wish the consules would just go away. We'd get a lot more
PC games if they would.

Fighting games are the shiznat.

I played SC3 again the other day, and I almost forgot, how important those games are in life.

On the topic of SSB, Brawl seems it will include Sonic, and the Spin attack will be the dangerous. But what about yoda and darth in SSB, i could see that as fun.

Soul Edge never seemed to me like it would change into a game with star wars characters.

Loser picks.
