| I feel like a sober guy who keeps hitting traffic stops. I keep hitting those roadblocks, but anyways, onto this edition of the Apex Analysis. I trust by now that you’ve heard of Microsoft surface. If you haven’t, a quick video will give you an idea of what it can do. http://www.youtube.com/v/X_jutvbxtJ8 Schnazzy eh? But now taking a look at the last Apex Analysis, with the argument of Keyboard & Mouse vs. gamepad, how will this new way of interacting effect gaming? I imagine board games will be easily conducted between two people in real time, but what about the big leagues of FPS, RTS, RPG and other games? Will this new medium between human and PC reign supreme? Or will it go the way of the Steel Battalion? Perhaps we’ll see it become a successful version of the Steel Battalion control scheme? Perhaps I’m thinking “too small”, what if we enter the realm something so fantastic like, Minority Report. If you haven’t seen Minority Report, the computers in the “Precrime” headquarters is very similar to Microsoft surface, so can we see similar motions for FPS games or moving units in RTS’? http://www.youtube.com/v/tb1XC2bUMj8 Surface computing, looks good, I wish it was less expensive. I’m really looking forward to seeing how developers will take advantage of the new technology in games. I hope they have great success; otherwise we’re back to square one with my Keyboard & Mouse vs. You and your silly control sticks and buttons. Till next time, Good Gaming to you. Sorry I didn't know how to get the videos to imbed ![]() | ||

| I don't see the surface getting enough market penetration for it to matter. Thanks to its top-down style, the surface seems more like a piece of furniture than a computer or game console would be While RTSes in particularly would probably work great with a surface (issuing two commands at once would be so great) I can see a gaming future for it in a club situation, but the games wouldn't be quite as engrossing. I'm thinking along the lines of Pac-Man ****tail-style machines | ||

| Maybe we\\\'re looking at a $10,000 Mario party machine? I\\\'m not sure if I really got my whole idea in, What if we go beyond surface, into something of that Cruise-Minority Report, hand motion thingiesort of combining the Wii and surface? Or maybe the day where the KB&M are extinct and dare I say, a sort of virtual controls exist, different for every game, a Mechwarrior game you have a full console, or like you would have a PIPBOY on your wrist for the a new Fallout game? Would it be worth it then, or is it just too damn complicated? | ||
