Hello all,

First let me say that I wanted to post this in the "anything gaming" section, but I guess I can't post there. My housemates and I are holding another LAN this weekend, and I thought I'd spice it up a little by adding some new games this time. Keep in mind, our LAN attendance is about 10-15 people.
Here's our current lineup:
CS (original, due to the fact that a bunch of people don't own hl2)
Starcraft: BW
W3: Frozen Throne
Tribes: Vengance
Quake III
UT (hell ya, original)
Worms Armagedon

Here are games that I would love to play, but that we simply can't get enough legit cd keys/game discs for:
Return to Castle Wolfenstein
Halo
BF 1942 (I want this to happen sooo bad, if anyone has any tips on how to get this going for everyone on a LAN...PLEEEEASE let me know. This is one of the greatest LAN games ever)
BF 2
Newer UT games

This is more than enough for one LAN, but seeing as we want to make this a monthly thing...I want to get a good gamelist that we can cycle through so no LAN is the same!

Please help me by adding any games you feel you couldn't live without at a LAN. Feel free to post any game, but the criteria I'm looking for is sorta specific. The most important aspect is that the game is either free or can be duplicated on many computers with ease. Of course, the game must be networkable (duh ), and the game can't be too cutting edge (we have a couple old computers, but they can play cs). Thanks guys and happy LANing.

You have a pretty good list there.

BTW, I tried running a UT server at work for the guys to play after work and we had problems getting the game to run well with more than 2 players (one of the 2 had to play on the server). If you have any tips or if you can send me the ini file that would be great.

AMD XP2400
1GB RAM
ATI 9250
10/100 NIC

We tried running it on the existing network and when that didn't work we rewired everyone to a dedicated switch which didn't help either.

Awww, that's unfortunate. We havn't actually got UT going, it's just one of the games we figured we would be able to do this weekend.

On an unrelated note: I think we're going to get tribe2 from fileplanet, since it's free.

Isn't America's Army free too?

AvP gold edition, survival is a blast, especially if everyone is using dual pistols
Serious Sam CoOp on the hardest setting.
Sven CoOp is pretty fun for the original HL.

even if you're against piracy, i think a LAN is a legitimate time to use cracks haha

online multiplayer wont work anyway but they cant block you from playing on a lan

Dod:s is a blast for LAN's.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think you'll need keys to get Tribes2 going... but I'd totaly get Tribes1 going if I were you. It's not too difficult to run, and setting up a temporary or even dedicated server is a snap. I used to run a Tribes1 server back in the day, and it was a blast... tho there are only a handful of people that still actively play it online.. I would if Vista supported it. But I've even got a couple mods for it... I'd be willing to hook you up if you want.

I like Need For Speed. But I live a little far away :-)

AvP is def a lan game.. you can do scenarios.. 1 pred .. rest marines.. or few marines, and tons of aliens.

I think Red Faction is also and exellent game.. your opponets come through the walls!!!

Anyway back to the topic.....

We ended up playing alot of the basics, with one addition. We decided to go to Fry's after we picked up the bawls, and we found a sweet looking game with a pricetag of $4.50. We picked it up along with this other sorry excuse for a game, and proceeded to the checkout line. It was at this time that the checkout lady told me the game was actually $1.50, and all of our hopes rose for potential gem. The game is "Flying Heros", and it is sweeeet! Well worth the price.

Another fun game is Battle Ground 2. Its a HL2 mod based on the revolutionary war. Its a lot of fun playing at LANs. Its in beta still so its free which is always sweet.

The beer (unfortunatley), is the Steel Reserve. We kinda ran low on funds, so we asked people to bring beer. That's what we got.... Haha, if only I could show you the real setup. Too bad I'm not sure how the admins will take it.

Tanquerey and Ketel One, thats what we drink at my LAN's... weird.

EDIT:Oh, and booze is fine on here, as long as you're not 13 and posting pics of yourself drinking. See my Bar Thread, which will be updated soon as i'm building an actual one for my apt.

To be honest, I find that my fellow lan goers' reaction time plummets as the night goes on so we keep booze to a minimum. On a lighter note, we ALWAYS play BF2 at every LAN party, so fun.....Need for speed most wanted is also a fan favourite. We used to play RTS games but some guys just hated being killed....by my hands lol.

P.S. thanks a lot for posting this, now I NEED to go to a LAN party but the next one isnt till next month!!!

Quake 4, you seem to be a little in the past on some games?

Galactic Civilization 2 might also be cool if you don't mind spending 8 hours on one game (Which is also turnbased )
