Angry UPDATE1

Had some good news,
had an e-mail from the bloke who ran this computer shop that i took my equipment in and i have the full address to go an pick it up
it`s not in redditch like previously thought but the other side of the town that the shop was in so i don`t have to travel that much further

So,good news there...

That's bad news, Ninj'.

In all probability, you fall into the "unsecured creditor" category, which means that after the Inland Revenue, the shop's bank, landlord, staff, etc, etc have had their slice of the assets (if any), there won't be anything left for you.

However, as you owned the bits you took in, the absence of your kit amounts to theft, so you might be higher up the list. The only thing I can suggest is that you make a formal complaint to your local Trading Standards (I guess they've already had complaints if a guy from them was there), and also report the theft to the police.

This probably won't get you your kit back, but the more information you can give to the authorities, the more likely that they can do something about it.

Chances are, the guy responsible will declare bankruptcy, then go on to open another shop doing the same thing. Sucks, doesn't it.

BTW, I just get a gateway timeout on that link. It's not looking good.

UPDATE

spoke to another computer shop today and got a bit of info on whats goin on,apparently the two people who were running the shop had a bit of a dispute and shut the shop, the female partner has taken everythin back up to Redditch.
why she could`nt phone me and tell me whats happenin i have no idea

so instead of my equipment being 20 miles away it is now about 90 miles away

and i`m also gettin the phone number to the female who was workin at the shop so i`ll give her a phonecall tomorrow and see whats up

NOW
on to another computer shop i think ,
so we drove ten miles to a shop i know to have a look for another case,
so i asked the manager if he had anything ,and he said he had a case downstairs so he went and bought it up and my god this thing is huge at just over 2 foot high

sort of server type thing with no name

i don`t know the make but the model is
Tower 486DX2 - 66

5x5.25 drive bays and i even get a hard drive caddy and CDrom which is cool and it might even fire up,i`ll give it a go tomorrow

it looks like a bit of a beast and i`ll hopefully have a pic on here in a day or two

let the modding begin

Still, you could have done worse ... I head that someone paid £200 for a 486 + a monitor at Snetterton Market .

I would've negotiated harder myself, I'd have wanted at least a tenner to take it away

It's been a long time since I had my paws inside a 486, but AFAIK a 486 will have 72pin SIMMS in it, and these should be vertical. The only place I remember seeing SIMMS on the p155 like that was in an old Dell. Still, it doesn't matter as absolutely none of it is either upgradable or useable in a modern system.

What have you got planned for it ?

Looks like it could be good news about your rig, I'm pleased for you as thought it was probably gone forever. Ever the optimist me.

thanx jon,

what i have planned for this rig...thats a hard one, first off i think i`ll ditch all the mobo as it`s probly knackered,i`ll keep the memory and other stuff like the HD caddy an that,
then i`ll probly strip it right down and spray the chassis
i`ll mostly be painting it with some black woodstove paint that looks hardwearing,i`m goin for a futuristic industrial look i think,

i`ve got a small 240 volt orange strobe thats going on the top and i`ll put a switch somwhere for that so i can turn it off and on

it has one of those built in floppy drives,Ewwwww...gonna take that out and get some plastic and do a filler job and have the floppy in one of the 5.25 bays

it also has a big clunky switch which looks a bit **** too,but once the paint is on it might go with the look,i`ll have to see

on the base i`m goin to be putting some screw studs like the ones on those goth bracelets
i`ll also be doing somethin fancy with the top and window feature with the studs too

then i`ll finish it off by gettin some of that yellow and black warning tape and danger stickers

sounds good to me...

Mmm, spikey ! Found some studs for you here (3 to 10 quid per 25, depending on the type), & pike nuts here (expensive).

You do know the difference between AT & ATX ?

AT and ATX has differeny fittings allthough i can`t really remember much more
i wish i did know more about the bits in the computer

i allready have one computer here that just needs wiring up and it would probably work, but i dunno where to put the cables for the power switch and stuff

I was just checking to see if you knew that there was a difference, not what all the differences are... I was imagining you modding an AT case then trying to install an ATX mobo, then yelling DOH!!!!

Quote:
i can`t build one but i can strip one mod it then it has to go to a shop to be re-built cause i dunno where all those wires go

I did wonder why you had to take it into a shop ... you should learn to do it yoself & save a few quid ... . I'd suggest taking photos & making notes as you strip the thing down, reading this , asking for this for xmas, and/or even asking here for help.

You moved the goalposts while I was typing Ninj' ... but the same goes for that : if you can ask specific questions, there are loads of people here who will help you out.

So you have at least located your box?

And I have seen slanted SIMMs ... definitely 30 pin, can't remember if I've seen slanted 72s.
