Thumbs down 1st ticket.

I got my first speeding ticket today. The day after my 17th birthday, I run out to the car after school, and hop in. I get going down the road, not really paying all too much attention to my speed. I see a police officer, and all of the sudden it's clear to me..I'm going WAY over the speed limit. So, he gets his light on, by this time I'm slowed down to a good speed, but I pull over...and he gets out of his car, and comes up and SCREAMS at me "67 in a 30! you've got to be SHI!TT!ING me!" He writes me a ticket...and this, my friends, is a $232.50 dollar ticket. I go to court OCtober 23rd for this...I'm obviously pleading guilty..because anyone under 18 in Indiana can get restitution instead of paying the fine and getting insurance rates jacked up. It's my own fault, and there's no excuse. Everyone makes mistakes I guess...but mine was extra huge...

37mph over...... that's a criminal offence in my state. You get arrested and stuff.

It is however good to see that you are taking responsibility and not blaming others for your ticket...

But still, that ticket sucks... $232 dollars ouch...

Yer lucky man. Buzz is right - in a LOT states double posted speed limit = car impounded. I'd tell stories of mine that'd make your look like nothing, but I don't think I need to give anyone any ideas.

I'm sorry you got a ticket but I'm glad to see you are taking responsability for your actions. That is rare today. Maybe if you throw yourself on the mercy of the court you'll get a break. And SLOW DOWN.

He was about to take me to jail, I think. He asked for my mom's cell phone number, but we don't have any cell phones, so he said.."the only thing stopping me from taking you to jail is that the street wasn't busy." So, that had my scared...really. I was still shaking, and I'm telling my parents tomorrow...things are gonna get interesting around here.

I can't say i feel sympathy for going that fast in a residential area and getting a ticket like that, but atleast you are taking the full blame.

Banana-Boy will be in here soon and will start dissing on you and tell us that he is a superior driver. Personally I feel bad cuz I have experienced tickets, just not that extreme.

I will definitely be slowing down. Today after work, I drove the speed limit the whole way home. Nobody here understands how hard that is for a young driver who has been driving 10 months speeding like a mad man. So, If I keep that up, and I go to court and get restitution *crosses fingers*, and don't get a ticket for 6 months, I should be alright. Sometimes it really takes something big to smack you into shape, and boy...did I get b!tchslapped like a 3 dollar hoe..such is life, I guess.

Well..... I don't do traffic really, but I'm fairly certain double the posted limit is more than enough to get you locked up here.

Glad to see you taking responsibility for it. Too many folks always try to blame someone else for their misdeeds.

Best of luck in court. Hope it doesn't hurt too much.

After my first ticket, I invested in a radar detector. However, don't speed in residential areas, school zones, etc..

You sure about getting off that easy?

Double the speed limit most places I've been is a major no-no.
Usually ends up being a Wreckless Op., especially when its a 17yr old behind the wheel.

Besy of luck bro.

Hey bro I am so sorry to hear that!
Seriously, everyone phases out once in a while, it sux when you get nailed during that time.
I will do the same thing, not residential though, on the open highway. Notice I'm doing 90-100 (in a 70) and hit the brakes. ONLY happens when I'm cruising and the highway is barren though.

Yea, think Valentine One. at $230 for the ticket. you coulda hada nice detector to keep you on your toes better.

Finally, think of it in a positive light, better a cop then a kid running out in front of you, dont ya think?

Do some research on the net to see what it takes to keep the points off.
Then learn to pay better attention.

The detector has saved my butt plenty of times. Valentine One is the best for $399. The Passport 8500 and Bel 920 are nice. Passport actually owns some of Bel now and shares technology with them from what I have heard. I bought the Bel at Circuit City for $199.

Usually anything that is 20 miles over the speed limit is a infraction, and an instant 2 point violatioin (California). My insurance rates got jacked up 2.5x. Plead guilty in the court and ask the judge to reduce it somehow. You can get a lawyer there on the spot to help you out, which should reduce your fine...no guarantees though.

I COULD get a radar detector...but I could just not speed..I don't know...I don't thin my parents would appreciate me hanging a radar detector from their car so I could speed. If I get my own car, then it would be a viable option.
