| I've read several post from senior members of the board, saying that threads have turned to something along the lines of a Jerry Springer telethon. Some have even left for a bit, like NapalmStix2Kidz. My question is, has PR done it all? Is there anything new that would start a plethera of ground-breaking case modding ideas? We've got paint artist and their how-to articles, sketch artists, people who build their own H2O kits from scratch (including making the water block and radiator), windows galore, case cutting galore with techniques, H2O installing articles, HSF reviews and articles, etc. I hope you get my point -- hell, we even had the guy that turned his computer into a coffee machine! Is there anything left to talk about, that would keep the old guys interested in sticking around? | ||

| Well, I think all hell will break loose soon, PR 2.0 is on the way. Everyone is still waiting for Zenn and Duck to finish up, It's projects like that we neeed to see more of. Everyone is back to school now, so things have slowed down a bit. Things were getting bad for a while with the slamming of a certain member, but that has gone away. If some people aren't happy, then do something about it.... Complaining without a solution won't fix anything (no offense intended) I have an Idea to add some sizzle and competition back I have been working on for a while, I will run it by them soon I love this place, it's in a little dry spell for now, but from what I heard about PR 2.0, it should have everyone smiling soon! | ||

| I have been a long-time reader and only recent poster and I have noticed the same phenomena. And to find out why, just look at the stats. The "Anything Goes" forum has almost 4 times as many threads as the nearest forum, "Case Modding", which is what this site is all about. Instead of being a forum of last resort, where you would only post questions/discussion that can't be fit into any other categories, the forum has just become a spamfest. It is being abused excessively. I'm not saying every thread in there is worthless....but at least half of them are. This might make us a tighter knit community but repels people who are here to get legitimate questions answered. What would you think if you came along for the first time looking for some serious modding advice and on the front page you saw these most recent threads: More b00l$h!t from work.... My new pimp ride! 1971 454 El Camino Domestic violence Happy Birthday XXXXX WTF? Lost my jeans! Cool Batman Movie.....etc You get the idea... I'm not trying to offend anyone here and god knows I'm guilty of the same thing, just illustrating my thought process and how someone would presumably react upon seeing this. It's not that there isn't anything left to talk about, it's just that people come to chat instead give out advice and persue the acquasition of knowledge. PR has not done it all. There is no such thing, and this site is still only in its adolescence. We just need some hardcore modders looking to push the envelope like Duck and Zenzzo recently. And as it stands right now, they don't seem to be biting...or at least only nibbling and leaving. Modding is only limited by one's own imagination. All we have to do is establish ourselves as a very reputable site when it comes to modding and people will come. They will come all day, every day, and in constantly increasing numbers. That's all there is to it....just exhibiting the clear purpose of the site and nixing the BS. P.S.--Changing the look of the site is like changing the cover on a book...it may look better, but the content will still be the same. I wouldn't count on a new look to magically bring in swarms of new people, only consistent good advice and a rock-solid reputation can do that. People may come at first but the question is who will stay.... And trust me those who stay aren't going to over flashy graphics....just look at overclockers.com. They have one of the most uninspired site skins I've ever seen...but check out how long they've been in business and how many members they have. ![]() Last edited by lAnonymousl; 23-September-03 at 04:05 AM.. | ||

| Word Anon, I said something like that 6 ,months ago concerning the Anything Goes section. Some fool (can't remember his name as he was run off...) was trying to use the Anything Goes section as his political soap box... My Idea of "Anything goes pretty much is this... I don't mind the occasional "Hey I got a new car..." or "Just bought my first house" threads in there if its coming from an established member of the community. I could give a **** about whats going on in some noobs life who I havent seen around long enought to know if he still lives in his parents basement. Fact is though, the Anything Goes section should be used for anything computer/modding that doesn't fit into any of the other categories. Anyhow, these paterns come up now and again and they get dealt with accordingling by the community. Just remember, this is your/our community. Police it like you would your neighborhood. Its nice to have the "Fuz" a.k.a Duck around in an emergency, but sometimes things are better dealt with without bringing the officials into play. My $.02 | ||

| Well, in answer to Duckwarriors comment - I read three books during the last week. Once you pick up a Dragonlance novel, they are hard to put down ![]() I'm the guilty one for posting the Cool Batman Movie thread. I watched it and thought since some people here are uber-geeks, that several members here would like the Batman movie, which judging by the responses to the post they did. That is why I posted it in the "Anything Goes" column. I think that is an appropriate thread for that column, and had some use to some of the members, even it was for entertainment reasons...not to mention some people have case mods based off of comics...so it was a sharing of a common interest with folk. | ||

| I didn't mind the Batman post there G... I actually like it I think what Anon is trying to say though is that there seems to be the cyclical theme that keeps coming up of "less killer and more filler" because of the "Anything Goes" section... and I for one can relate to his fealing...It's kind of a fine line that the "Anyting Goes" section sits on. I am actually a little embarrassed by my previous post. Almost started to sound like Fu3lman there. All in all people just need to start using better judgement in the posts that go into the Anything Goes section. Like, think this, would anybody realy give a flying **** about what I am about to say or is it just going to be a waste of space on the server... | My quick .02 worth: - PR has not done it all - If only I had the $$$, I have the ideas! - More NEW memembers need to PUT UP or SHUT UP! (and I mean Original Ideas and Mod's...stop talking about it and DO IT!) - Refer to BA's Thread for more on How to improve the site - Take the Anything Goes thread off the front page and don't give post count credit. There are times that we need to communicate and receive help from others and build as a community. Seems simple to me. | ||

| Fantazmic2 - you're right, there is something wrong with those images. Why am I not up there? Why can't I be kewl, and restrain my pointless posts? Yes folks, I do retrain myself the best I can. As for as "Has PimpRig done it all?" What type of question is that?! Of course we have! Now everyone, lets pack up our dremels, put our computer mod "kits" away. It's time for pimprig to do something uber-geeky. Lets start our own Linux distro! | ||

| I'm suprised more of the News Pimps aren't on the Top 10 posters board as the news posts we submit are added to our post count. I know Lokie's been posting a shiat load of news for one... EDIT: No! I was not throwing down the gauntlet at my fellow News Pimps on this one. They/We in my mind have been doing a pretty damn good job of getting the word out about all the stuff going on. | ||

| Im surprised how lokie finds the time to post that much news. Its pretty impressive. Notice, my name isnt there in the 24hour, 30 day posts ![]() Ive used the anything goes for other technical posts, that I find on the net, and funny stories/flashes. I've been trying to post better. But I do miss calling noobs asshats tho. | ||

| Trying to make it so posts made in the Anything Goes forums don;t count towards post count would take some serious hacking... and I mean SERIOUS. The anything goes forums is meant to be a lounge where you guys can talk about whatever you want... The new forum setup will have "Reputation Points" which essentially is the same thing as the old karma system. Members will be able to give or take points to people based on their contributions. People who have been a member longer get more points to give as do people with higher post counts. This is where seniority comes into play. ALSO, people won't be able to hand out or take points until they get to a certain level themselves. Reputation points earn you reputation levels. As an added bonus I will be giving material awards (mag subscriptions, PimpRig Gear, etc.) to people when they reach certain levels of reputation. I think this will be a VERY welcome feature once you see it in action. As we all know, post counts aren't everything... CONTENT is what matters. This will allow you guys to reward one another for good posts. ![]() | ||

| Apex Techie Wannabe | I am a Noob here...and have received excellent input from the PR group. Just wanted to put my 2C in...I lurk at OCC, bit-tech, Gruntville, VH-net, Modthebox, and the like. I probably don't have much more than 150 post at any of them, over two years' time. Overall, you at PR are among the most responsive and eager to comment/advise/compliment/etc. I think every site has "phases" as someone already commented. PR still has more active posting and useful replies than most of the sites I frequent. Some sites stagnate in those "phases" and realizing the nature of it is the first step to continuing past it. IMO I am happy to be sharing and using what new things you have showed me here, and you will soon see a Worklog thread from me!! Acrylic case, UV lights (tons), custom Res, HDD 12V flasher circuit, and brand new thumbscrews (2.89$US a piece, made them myself). Just my 2C, so you know how appreciated you are. ![]() | |

| Lokie's Personal WU-Hoe | Amen to that GK! Glad to see you have found a system that looks like it's going to work. Thinking...always thinking, keep it up I'd like to vote AGAINST the anything goes suggestion...It may prevent the one's who abuse it from getting higher post counts, but what about the ones that actually deserve it? Posting there would be useless IMO because it'd probably just overflow with spam since posting something worthwhile would not be worth the time and effort. It's up to every individual to limit the amount of crap they put out...which I'd like to point out that the big J didn't comment on the picture. JDogg, take a look at that picture and think for a few minutes. We don't need any more fruits on this forum(pun intended). | |
