Default My new pimp ride!

Hehe, thought u guys might like this. Just got it Saturday, its a 1995 Dodge Intrepid ES 3.5L. Has pretty much all available options; leather interior, cd player, infinity stereo system, power windows, locks, mirrors, digital climate control, 4 wheel disc brakes, ABS, traction control, alloy wheels, power antenna, auto-dimming rearview mirror, the list goes on The only thing it doesnt have is tinted windows, which will soon be fixed I'm also thinking of getting some 18" wheels for it, and lowering it. What do u guys think? Would you pimp it?

In front of it, you can kinda see my old car, which I am currently selling. It's a 1983 Pontiac Firebird, with a 6.6L chevy small-block under the hood

On a side note, this is somewhat computer related, since I'm seriously considering putting a mini-ITX computer in it. It has a giant glove box, with more than enough room for a mini ITX PC. Does anyone know any good sites with examples of computers in cars? The only thing I am currently unclear on is the power supply - I would need some type of power supply that would run off the car's 12V system.

To install a PC into your car I have seen most people use a power inverter like THIS one. Makes everything else easy.
Oh yeah- Congrats on the new car.

whats wrong with the firebird?....u coulda turned it into KITT.......hmmm that would be cool to put a computer in a KITT conversion since it would already have 2 monitors.....u could even make it talk with that software that reads stuff......ummm well anyway nice intrepid....

Lol, my car is already close enough to KITT. Besides, KITT is fugly, the front end on my firebird is already long enough, why add another damn foot to it with the ugly KITT bumper. The real KITT was a 1982 Trans Am Recaro Edition, mine is just a plain old 1983 Firebird. There is a company that makes any item you could possibly want to turn your 82-92 Firebird into a KITT though. IMO, its retarded, and a waste of money, but apparently someone buys from them. Hehe, and for the text-to-speech thing, that would get creepy and/or annoying. Might as well just drive around everywhere with Stephen Hawking...

www.markscustomkits.com

My firebird needs too much work, and I dont really have time to do it. I work part time and go to school part time, so my free time is pretty limited. But, I've also had the firebird for 5 years, and after constantly fixing it, im pretty much just sick of it. Too many times I've had to stay up til 2 or 3am fixing it, so that I can make it to school by 8AM the same day. That sh*t gets annoying.
Hehe, and about

Ben: If I put a computer with say a 100W PSU in it, would I only need a 100W A/C inverter? Would I really need a 500W inverter for such a small computer?

BTW, here's a better pic of my firebird:

You can get 12volt PSU's for just this application, try here, you may have to surf around a little, they sell them in the store.

The theory is these just divide the 12 volts to feed all the usual power rails your PC needs, eliminating the rectification and smoothing steps. They're small, but I think only go up to 60-80 watts. Should be more than enough to feed a mini-itx mobo and associated paraphenalia.

Nice Ride you got there, but take a bit of advice from one who knows....get thee a "Club"or a good alarm that will kill the starter.

Chrysler products are SUPER easy to steal!

This advice goes to ANYONE who has a Chrysler product old or new. Especially NEW!

Congrats on your new wheels Ward.

Is that interior _really_ that brown though ? Looks about as fly as a plain clothes cop !
Anyone successfully re-dyed leather ?

Yep, I'd pimp it .. but subtlely: cream interior, tinted windows, colour matched skirts, Barry White on the CD ... and a jaccuzzi in the back

Yeah, I like the Intrepids. I picked up a 2001 SE about 3 weeks ago. White. Tinted windows soon to come along with lowering kit, new struts and some 18's. Gonna try and get the license plate "0WN3D". Sweet Car dood.

Here is some info you originally asked for:

Mini-Itx in a Car Write Up

Take a look around that site...it's a startup for Mini's.

Also...THIS SITE has one or two of them and is the most popular Mini site at the moment. They also have links to great power supplies especially made for the mini's.

Nice ride Ward, but be forewarned, your transmission is going to go belly-up in notime. Intrepids ranging from 1994-1999 have severe transmission issues and dont expect to get more than 150000mi on that thing before the trani quits on you.

I have a 94 Chrysler New Yorker with the same engine-tranny setup as your Intrepid. at 80,000 miles, the tranny started slipping, but it hasnt quit. Also, does your car have the digital heater controls? If so, good luck!

Power inverters (converts 12vdc in a car to 120AC with a wall-like outlet) aren't great for running computers. They're a really noisy, unstable 120 volts. Your regular power supply and the PC itself won't like you much if you run them through an inverter.

If you can find a 12vdc PSU, it'll be well worth your time, money, and headaches (or lack thereof). check here

The interior is actually gray. That pic doesnt do it justice, it was almost dark. Yes it does have the digital climate controls. I already know about the transmission issues, but hell if this one lasts another 20K miles I'll be happy. I have changed several transmissions myself before, its no biggie. However, I'm pretty sure this was some old lady's car before me. It is in mint condition, especially for the mileage. It has been garage kept, and driven very easily. The transmission shifts like brand new, no slippage, and the trans fluid looks good, not burnt at all. Hehe, and as far as pimping goes, I'm definitely getting the windows tinted, and thinking about 18" wheels. I also have the 2 Pioneer 400W 12" subs, and my 600W amp that I took out of my firebird. I might just have to put that in as well
