Default Top Ten Astromony Images of 2006

There's never much talk about astronomy here, but I have an interest in it and thought I would share something I found on Slashdot with everyone.

There are some interesting astronomy images on the page. The best of all, number one, is a nice picture of Saturn as it would look like if viewed with the sun in back of it, a view no one on Earth could ever experience.
See the picture (56K warning!)

Isn't it cool? I currently have it as my dual monitor wallpaper.

If you want to see some really great stuff you should check out the Hubble gallery.

Intresting that this topic comes up now. I don't know too much about astronomy, but my girl...AKA wife is into that, so for Christmas I got her this: Celestron.com/NexStar SLT Series/NexStar 130 SLT

It's totaly motorized and computerized with flash upgradable database handset and computer intagration.

I know we wont get to see things like what's in this thread, but this thing can see Saterns rings and stuff outside of our solar system. I can get lots of better eye pieces plus filters to look at the sun, but we need to learn alot more first.

nice find, i love astronomy images and studies. If i had to choose a scientific profession, astronomy would be it for sure. My Grandfather actually designed NASA's first Mars probes and satelites.

That's a pretty sweet telescope. Are there any models with built-in digital cameras? I don't know that much about them.

I don't know too much about them either, but so far all I have seen are camera mounts that allow photography through the telescope's eyepiece.
