| Ok, I have heard that a PC will use more power during power up than it does if you leave it on a full day (24hours).. I am trying to find out 1) is this fact? 2) where can I read and more important show this to someone if it is indeed factual... My reason for this is my new roommate is very anal about wanting me to turn off my PC anytime I will be gone for around an hour or two and I have tried explaining the Power up vs. staying on thing but they basically don't believe me.. So what I need since I have not been able to find anything is some help to find out if this is fact and a link to a creditable site that states this in clear English / non-geek terms for her... Help a brotha out (this down time is cutting into my folding) | ||

| Man if its your computer in your room that your paying for then you should be allowed to run it. As far as I am concerned if I were to be paying for electricity or other bills then I should be able to run my comp as much as I want. Just my opinion if thats worth anything | ||

| "God loves stupid people, just look at how many he created". A computer uses a good deal of power, if you leave it on year round, it's gonna be about 100 dollars at the end of the year in power costs (give or take, depending on your utilities company and location). Why not just give her 20 bucks a month to cover your electrical expendatures? | ||

| Im with later on this one just figure out how much energy your computer use and then multiply that by the cost per kilowatt hour and then give her the exact amount. Like the website ben gave said:
So at the end of every month give her $18 and that will cover you computer use for the month. | |||||||||||||||||||||
