Default Scanning software

Ok I have 2 documents for work I want to scan onto my pc and then I want to type info on it daily to email to the office. I have scanned it but when I try to open it in word it will not open. I have tried to open in Adobe and convert it to word but no luck, tried saving as jpeg ( my boss says he did this and it worked I think he's full of ****) but I can't get the document opened to edit.
Does anybody know of software to use for this?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Do you have photoshop? You can directly scan from photoshop and edit it. You can then save it as a jpeg to open in a word doc.

microsoft document imaging or scanning will treat a document like a document instead of just a picture. it will even attempt OCR so you can copy paste text its self. it's under ms office tools.

I've used omniform before and really liked it. You may want to give it a shot.
