| Check this out - LINK I think that it could work only if they stopped printing the $1.00, which they said that they have no plans to do so. I know that I'd vote for it if it ever came up. How many times have you had to stick that damned dollar bill into a vending machine, only to have it spit right back out at you? How many times have you gone through the drive through and bought dinner for $6.00 only to get back four $1.00 out of the $10 you handed them? Coins are less hassle and easier. The only ones that would have a legitimate complaint would be strippers. | ||

| so.. they borught it back... didn they kill the golden dollar bill in 2002? besides as being a collectors item... who wants somthing heavy to weigh you down? this might have worked if it was in the 50's and 60's (susan b anthony coins dont count, whos bright i dea was it to make a dollar coin almost the same size of a quarter??) as technology progresses, physical money decreeces.... once vedning machines start taking credit cards (they do exsist... but are far and few between) what need will there be for physical money? | ||

but you could not slip them in the traditional spot......where would you stick the coin Yah they were talking about getting rid for the dollar bill some time ago, but no one wanted to carry around a bunch of oversized quarters.

Yah I am a coin collector...(a numismatic if you will) and I did not like the idea. I think there is room for both, heck Canada does it that way, and as every one knows.... ![]() (hehe jk...I love that one)

Doubt it, ( . ) ( . ) bars is still a growing business. I'd love to own one too, they're repression resistant and your average patron drops 80-150 dollars depending on region. Liquor clubs can easily net 30-100 per head, 45 dollars per independant contractor working.

Wrong. Canada replaced the $1 note in the 1980s and the $2 in the 1990s. Great Britain replaced the 10-shilling note in the late '60s and the pound note in the mid 80s (exception being some Scottish banks which issue them for reasons I can't quite fathom) The Euro had 1 and 2 Euro coins from the start. Even Mexico has a circulating 10-peso coin. (Their latest 20-peso note is a durable, long-lasting plastic instead of traditional paper) I don't favour slapping ugly presidents on every coin (why can't we have inspired designs like we did before we got the presidential fetish... like before 1930 or so) but a dollar coin is practical. A $1 coin cost (this was in like 2002 when I researched this) ~12 cents to produce. It can easily last 40 years (look how many 1965-dated quarters you find still!) A $1 note costs about 1.5 cents and lasts 1.5 years on average. Do the math. It also is more reliable for vending machines, and more friendly to the blind with a distinctive edge (why are all American banknotes the same size?)

Vending machines eat more coins than bills. When a machine screws over your bill it's usually just spit out and leaves you ironing it or going for another bill. When a machine screws over your coins it's swallowed with no return value and leaves you kicking and shaking the damn thing.
