Cool High Voltage

I finally found something to do with these big transformers Ive salvaged from equipment.. Ive been dabbling all day with this transformer, and it smells of Ozone..

LED With Highvoltage - Google Video

I tried to use a Blue LED on roughly 2kV+, went up in flames almost instantly, but it was bright.

2nd Video of Just arcs
2kV Arcs - Google Video

(Yea, You can hear me say Yeap, and just keep drawing arcs..) Dont know if you can hear it, but when I draw too much current, the surge protector "clicks" and shuts off power. The power Did infact shut off at the end of the video, the transformer gets warm to the touch.

Heres a Zip file with some shots I took: (its 21Mb)

Man, you got balls. I think I'd be too scared to play around with a transformer that powerful. Shoot, I get nervous playing around with ccfl inverters. What do you plan on doing with it, if anything?

Oh no, dont get me wrong, But I know what Im doing. As Long as I dont ground myself (meaning put my self in the circuit) I have nothing to worry about (for the most part..) The voltage that are being created arent Large enough to travel through the stick to me. Dont forget, that stick Has resistance. Just wait until I move on to bigger things..Im working on getting 20kV from a Flyback, and then, I'll move on to a tesla Coil or a jacobs ladder.

I forgot to put up a warning, Yes This is really high voltage (appr 10X line voltage) and um, if you dont know what your doing, Dont do it. Yes I can get killed, But you have to have respect for the voltages being created. And I dont really reccomend ANYONE try this. Im doing it so you dont have too...Unless of course you want to put your life at risk...But hell, how does one not put their life at risk by not living?

Now, for what I have planned... Im thinking of making a cap Discharge System...Or a Can Crusher/Shrinker. Im a bit nervous that these Caps I have will explode, The last thing I need is metal shrapnel. The only other problem is the number of Joules you need to actually crush a can (Roughly 40 to 80J) Right now I have Caps ranging from 2000V to 2300V with values of .85uf to 1uf. So, with 7 Caps, that brings the total to 6.37uF @ 2000V AC (however....I can rectify this and multiply it ) Which brings me to 12.37J, However, I still dont know if 2000V is correct, Some sites are reporting up to 4kV. I have no way to measure high voltage.

I may also try to experiment a bit on static electricity or a plasma globe (But, I need high frequencys for this). One strange thing I forgot to mention, If I try to arc to ground, It wont arc, yet if I arc to the secondary connected to ground, it arcs.

I Forgot to add in the commentary- Why do I feel as if thing thing can cause cancer?

You could run the caps in series to raise there voltage threshold

also the exterior of caps will be live so some type of insulation or container is advised.
Be carefull !!!
Stacking capacitors for voltage.

eBay Store - TeslaStuff: neon sign transformer, tesla coil, high voltage

Lotso information about this on google under "Tesla coils"

If I run out I could alway start making caps. I also do have the HV diodes, I could multiply the voltage to Uh...4kV, Up to 8kV probably..Err lets see, 7 Diodes and Caps, 2 Per Stage (2 Caps, 2 Diodes) So Theoretically, I can Boost this up to 10kV.... The only problem is Once they are charged, I cant draw that 10kV arc continuously,I can only draw it once (well once it recharges, I can draw it again.).

Alias, 2 hobbies conflict with each other. I was going to buy some more chemicals for my stock, But I have to decide if I want to persue this more...Ha, Death by electricity or death by pyrotechnics? Which one will the great needle of life land on? Round and round she goes, where she stops no one knows..

Both? Thanks for the concern, But I think I'll live. The only other thing I dont like is the fact that this thing outputs 2kv+ @1 Amp! Ive tried limiting it, and it wont even work.
