Well, I like a lot of the old Aerosmith songs, some Led Zepplin is always good. My personal favorite is Rush, but you might want to check out some of the Rolling Stones stuff. Some of that may be late '70's.

I like some of the more odd stuff. Some Jethro Tull, Fleetwood Mac. Maybe a little Janis Joplin. Look up a band called Mountain, kinda a one record wonder type band but had some great songs.

Another one that I really enjoy even though it is a newer album is the Eric Clapton / BB King album, Riding with the King. Just came out maybe 2 years ago but it is some great blues rock in a very classic style.

Wow, that's about half of my 150G catalog.

What I would suggest is to first go to a website like TimeLife and check out some of their complilations to give you more of an idea on how to increase your knowledge of bands in that time frame.

Also, run some queries on music genre, such as this link.

The only one I can think of is "Procol Haram"
well, Motown was pretty big at that time too, as well as some hugely popular jazz groups.

The so-called BIG BANDS played at all the big universities too.
