| Has any one seen this article, I was reading this today about a 14 year old girl who posted on MySpace.com what the FBI are calling a threats towards Bush, so i was thinking what is everybody thoughts and commits to this would be, does she not have the right to freedom of speech to say what she would like on MySpace.com. Link to who story. AP Wire | 10/13/2006 | California teen questioned over threats to Bush posted on MySpace | ||

| Thats absolutely disgusting, that girl should have the freedom to say what the hell she wants, especially on the internet. The reaction of the secret services was way OTT, personally I'm no fan of president Bush, I might just go and start writing about wanting to kill him somewhere for a laugh, just to see how long it takes the authorities to catch up with me. | ||

| Meh - when I was 14 I got a letter from the Department of Defense on that nifty letter head (watermarked and all, I have it saved somewhere) telling me my repeated pinging on government sites wasn't good and could result in jail time. US Government has been overly proactive on everything relating to the net for way longer than G. W. Bush. | ||

| Well, another example of wasted tax dollars... seriously... a 14 year old girl, com'on. I'm like the senior at the end of the article... I wouldn't have said that about bush (as I like Bush), but it does take balls to say something like that... then again, she probably didn't know what she was getting herself into in the first place. | ||

| It's the age old Free Speech argument. Does Free Speech mean that you can shout "FIRE!" in a crowded theater? No. Does it mean you can call a school with a bomb threat? No. Does it mean that if you scream from the rooftop that you're the King of Siam they won't lock you up long enough to evaluate your mental health? No. Does it mean that if you post that you are involved in illicit behavior on a public space where anybody can read it, including law enforcement officials, teachers, parents, etc. that you are a dumbass? Yes. | ||

| Yea I read this, I remember seeing pages like this on ANY site...It was disgusting..Dam, I know people dont like him, but I doubt people would go that far...*sigh* Such misleading in this world...I wonder if her hate is actually guided by her parents opinion...and at that age, people are vulnerable to such things.. | ||

| I think the SS and the FBI were justified, I mean a threat is a threat. Kids make bomb threats all the time against schools and that doesnt mean they take them any less serious. Same with at airports, you mention the word 'bomb' and youre screwed. I guess they have to take ever threat serious because if something didnt happen... well look what the media did over 9-11 when we missed some outright threats. | ||

| The fact that she's a kid doesn't negate the fact that it is a crime to make death threats against the president (or any political office holder). She's lucky she's a minor or it could have been much worse for her. The moral of the story is: "Don't make threats you don't intend to keep, as someone might take you seriously." and "If you threaten the president's life, you can count yourself as lucky if you don't get shot dead by the secret service." | ||

| A well-motivated 14 year old with a rifle is just as deadly as a well-motivated 34 year old with a rifle. Did the Secret Service know she had a rifle? Nope. "oh, they could just check firearm records" Not if it's an illegal rifle. "14 year olds can't get stuff like that!" Columbine. Bottom Line- Don't threaten any big name federal employees if you don't want your ass handed to you. | ||
