| Yo PCA! So today, I made the jump to XP x64 finally. Overall... I like it. It was, for the most part, much easier to install all of my hardware than I expected. Only trouble I had was finding the correct Promise RAID Drivers and not being able to get any 64-bit drivers for my Cisco WLAN adpater. Most everything else installed itself flawlessly. I haven't really noticed any huge speed gains yet, except in Photoshop... seems the additional virtual memory really pays off. So who else if running 64-bit here at PCA these days? Any issues? Noticable speed differences? | ||

| Yeah, I was quite surprised when nearly all of my hardware installed without a fuss. But I'm now having trouble getting Flash and Java to work in Deer Park (Firefox 64). Deer Park won't acknowledge that I have the plug-ins installed! Anyone now how to fix this problem? | ||

| I've been trying Vista for x86-64, and frankly, the hardware support is a massive deal-breaker. The 'signed drivers only' thing is BS-- when was the last time you heard about people fudging drivers into the system (aside from Starfarce, which probably can get them signed)-- but may keep useful third-party drivers (ie the 3dfx drivers) out of the game. And you'd think they'd be smart enough to offer, even at a performance hit, a wrapper which lets us use our 32-bit drivers, cos I doubt anyone's in a rush to support my (still decent) old scanner or 2000-vintage TV card. | ||

I know this is another os, but yeah, there's a lot of problems with Flash and 64-bit ness. for instance, in Linux, there's no sixty four bit flash player. at all. and thirty two bit Linux users have to use flash player seven. Maybe this is a result of Adobe buying Macromedia? maybe they're still trying to find their marbles? though, they shouldn't have lost them, either way. I was happier with Macromedia, but snakes on a plane | |||||||||||||||||||||||||

| I can't speak to the usefulness of XP-64, but I know about Flash woes in Linux... basically, almost everything else you can get source for, so if I ever make the switch to 64-bit, I think I can manage. FireHawk, you might find this article on a Mozilla 32-bit plugin wrapper interesting. | ||
