| Warning this might be considered off topic. I just thought i would share this with you guys. It is an email from the President of my University to the University community. I think it shows how we as Amaericans have learnt how to cope with an emergency and have come together as a nation in a time of duress again. To: The Clarkson Community From: Tony Collins The Clarkson Campus was part of the largest electrical blackout in U.S. history yesterday evening. I want to acknowledge the responsiveness and professionalism of our staff, in particular Campus Safety officers, the Office of Information Technology, Facilities and Services, Marketing/Communications, and University Health & Safety Officer Al Rossner. Their actions appear to have brought the campus through this emergency with minimal impact. After checking with Bill Dillon and Kevin Lynch, I understand that all our buildings and computer systems are now running smoothly. I also want to thank everyone on campus for their goodwill, patience and composure during the blackout. The situation underscores our need to be responsive to ensure the security of our faculty, staff and students, and demonstrates the benefits of a campus working together to assist each other during an emergency. | ||

| Lokie's Personal WU-Hoe | I can't believe what a huge deal all that was...just shows how reliant everyone is on electricity. We had a really bad storm a few years back that blew wires off of the telephone poles all over the city(ies) in random places. As you may know, the power system is set up in grids...and it just so happened we were on the block that was part of a grid without electricity. The people across the street had electricity, but we didn't. Since it was semi-widespread it took the electrical workers roughly 2 days to finally get to fixing our grid. Overall it was a good experience except for the fact that it was a little overwhelming that people across the street had electricity but you did not. Needless to say, my dad knew someone with a generator so we used that to power the fridges/freezer. Ahhh...the smell of dieself fuel and the sound of a motor running all day. | |

| It is difficult for Americans to cope without electricity - in a world where some countries have no power, sporadic power, or can be assurred that certain times of the day the power WILL be off. We may need to get a little tougher and a little more thankful in USA. -MF | ||

| Apex Techie Lite | i dont see why it was a bad thing that the power was out, it is good to let people know how much they depend on it but on the other hand it sucks like hell for me when it comes back on, all the servers that did not have desial generators needed to be re set and brought back up one by one and charge the batteries for when this happens agian and with my team there are only 10 people and just under 200 servers to do by hand, this is going to be a log few days i just hope that there are no spikes | |
