Default my school screwed me

I went to pick my new laptop today and they gave me last years model. I asked the kid behind the table if i could get a new one when i saw he picked up and old one and he said no, even though everyone else had gotten a new one. • 14.1" XGA (1024x768) TFT LCD Display
  • Firewire (IEEE 1394)
  • Ultrabay Enhanced DVD/CD-RW (DVD Player and CD-ROM/Recorder)
  • Intel 802.11A/B/G wireless
  • Modem
  • 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet

I say quit complaining. That "old" thinkpad is new in my mind. My T22 was a beast and it didnt even have usb 2.0 Am I the only one who thinks that getting a laptop from school is nice no matter how old it is?

Please explain a little more. I failed to see the point. Did you have to pay for it?

yeah its paid for in tuition. and I usually buy my computer at the end of my lease. I also take very good care of my laptop and most students dont. this one has alot of scratches on the cover and light spots on the lcd where someones thumb pressed in too hard. not somthing i want to buy in 2 years. I just think its shady of them to do that when there are lots of new ones sitting in 2 semi truck trailers

If I paid for it I would not accept it. Talk to someone higher up and tell them how you feel. If they don't agree then tell them to take it back and give you your money back. If you tell them that you usually can get something done.

You have to take a laptop they are required

The cost for the laptop in tuition is about $3,000

Art and design majors recieve a macbook but are also required to pay extra per semester

I would point to the LCD and the damage and say that is not acceptable for 3,000$

It is on them that they accepted a damaged laptop, you have the right to a defect free item, or they should refund your money, or at least make the option that "Blemished" items can be had at a discount.

I am sure they will happily comply with such logical arguements...NOT!

There is no way in hell they will ever let any money slip back out of there hands...this is income that goes in the same category as rediculous book fee's.

Thumbs down Re: my school screwed me

Try the words "lawyer" and "lawsuit" and "fraud". You might get a more acceptable response.

You might not.

Whose paying your tuition. Angry parents can often get things changed.
Do you have a faculty counsulor? Ask him/her. After that I would contact
a lawyer.
