I don't believe foreign nationals are allowed to serve in our armed forces (I could be wrong)

If by Mexican, you mean an American citizen of Mexican decent, then yes he can serve.

As gumby said, they can not serve if they are not legal citizens, but if they were born in this country, instant citizenship and they can serve in whatever they wanted to.

Yes they can serve, hell they have or had when the base was open( Subic Bay) recruiting stations in the Phillipines or outside off the base to pull Filipinos in to join the Navy.
I was not born here and was not a citizen when I joined The Corps. Alot of people are'nt but want to give back to this country the best way they know how.
All you need to join up is a Social Security number and green card.

Now you can serve in the military to get your citizenship. They're getting desprate.

Foreign nationals are limited as to which jobs in the military are available to them. There are three basic types of security clearance, Confidential, Secret, and Top Secret (other levels exist but these are the three basic). Anything requiring a Secret clearance or higher is unavailable to them.

i may be wrong... but i thought a person from another country could join the army/navy/AF and as long as they served 3 years they could become a citizen

Why would that be desperate? If immigrants are willing to put their lives on the line in the service of the country, why shouldn't they become citizens? They have shown more patriotism than those who haven't served... especially those whose parents got them out of service.

BTW... I have the utmost respect for John McCain.

There can be no greater honor than serving the human race, whether you join the Peace Corp or chose to serve in your country's military. Serving means that you value your fellow brother and sister, and that you value mankind.

I figure it's the least we could do as a thank you. It's a lot more than many of the snot-nosed, latte-drinking, pot smoking, incense burning, hybrid driving, public assistance leeching, grunge fashion victims or the snobby, wine-drinking, pot smoking, potpourri, yatch driving, 'daddy owns three houses in the Hamptons', Ambercrombie and Fitch clones will ever do for this country.

Why did you feel the need to mention that? John McCain is undeniably a war hero, and I think the fact that his son just joined the navy totally cements the idea that he will be running for president.

It happens - worst was during the 1980s though when they were recruiting out of prisons.

...and before that when a judge would ask which you would prefer, prison or the military. Many convicts got their cases thrown out if they returned to court with a signed enlistment form.

They still do that and now like in the past it was generally over lesser chargers. But in the 1980s they'd take folks right out after being convicted for felonies.

Actually what we need is a leader that refuses to conform to any ideals that Americans put on Repubrat/Demorat. The 2-party special interests are what is ruining this country from the inside out.

Of course, that leader would probably end up like JFK or MLK Jr.
