Platypus utilizes a software client for Windows, Mac and Linux that keeps files synchronized with Google's massive infrastructure. Aside from backup services, users can create a shared space to which multiple users can write for collaboration purposes. Files are also accessible via the Web when no Platypus client is installed.Corsin Camichel first reported the page, located at writely.com/index.html, on his blog early Monday. The news sparked a flurry of activity among others looking to verify the information. The project's existence was confirmed in a Web log post by David Braginsky, who said he had become "techlead of project Platypus at Google." However, Braginsky's posting was made in July 2004, and it's unclear when the leaked Platypus feature page originated or why it appeared on a server used by Writely. Google isn't commenting on the rumors, but at an analyst meeting in March the company disclosed future plans to build a Google Drive, where users could eventually store 100 percent of their data. It's entirely possible that the Platypus project is designed strictly for internal use by Google employees, and it may never see the light of day as a service for consumers. Nonetheless, that fact won't stop the rumor mill from turning, with hopes to piece together disparate leaks into a single puzzle.

1] An internet hard drive with colloboration? Could you run your whole business over the internet without owning a server farm yourself? What would YOU pay?

2] Do you REALLY trust Google with your data? In this era of identity theft? Given Google's co-operation with the Chi-Coms? Given Google's founders are buying a corporate jet ... A FREAKIN 767? Google is big corporate now and could very easily give you the big corporate screw-over if you just gave them all your data.

More questions than answers ...

Meh I wont dare trust google with important data but for transfering stuff to and from school its perfect. Plus Im not that worried about google coming after my school projects.

Yeah - Be sure to host all your ill-gotten warez, appz, MP3, bootleg DVDs and so forth on GDrive.

Cause RIAA, MPAA and their ilk have already written the supeonas - they're just waiting for critical mass.

And you know Google's gonna roll over - got no choice.

Hey now firmwarez can be freely downloaded for your psp and simply update the firmware that IS your psp's operating system.

Nah I dont think so, google wont hand over terms people search for, so why would they do that?
