Default Intel Makes Water Cooling Systems?

Quote:
At the Intel Developer Forums in San Francisco a bi-annual event, Intel announced what we have been saying for so long "Heat is not your friend" and they came up with a water coolinng system that would never need refilled or leak.

Intel researchers have finally decided to do something about the heat that is given off by their CPUs. As you may know, it is Intel CPU's that generate the most heat compared to AMD's CPUs. Intel at IDF, demonstrated their water-cooling system. So, how good is it?

The difference between this and other water-cooling or liquid-cooled systems was that this system used metal pipes and it's completely sealed and is designed to never need refilling. The pump is integrated into the heatsink which then connects to a 120mm-fan radiator.

Intel's spokesperson, stressed how seriously the company has taken the issues of leaks by devising stringent automatic testing process with the help of the company that makes ABS brake systems for cars.

The system was demonstrated by using the system to overclock an Extreme Edition CPU, which you know, gives of loads of heat. Intel overclocked the CPU to 5Ghz. It was stable. Not bad.

I heard about that several months ago.

Here's a preview of it with pics:

I think it will be very interesting to see if Intel released water cooling with its CPUs. The only problem I can see is the cost, think about how much extra you'll have to pay for this versus a cheap HSF?

They talked about this on TWIT a while back --- during IDF I think and Will Harms(editor at Bit Tech) was saying they were really really good and were supposed to be around $50.

Well that unit - an early prototype - allowed a Pentium EE to hit 5GHZ

What's more, it was touted as having a probable retail price of US$50!!!
