Default Funeral protesters.... In LA??

In a small town near where I live, a family is putting their son to rest. He was in the Army, and was killed overseas in the war. Now fred phelp's people plan on protesting at this funeral acording to the local radio station and the crazy peoples web page.

Now I believe in the right to protest a war. But not the way they do it. Leave the family alone! I think the protestors are going to get a nice 'Southern Experience'. If they do show up to protest at a funeral, I predcit a few of them will suffer a heat stroke and just 'fall down on their faces'... repeatedly.

The Patriot Guard Riders will be there also.

I would go protest the protestors, but I have to work!

I thought a law was passed prohibiting Militray Funeral protests... the US Fallen Hero Protection Act or something like that... it was posted in a thread here somewhere. But obviously, that isn't intimidating them... oh well, just toss their asses in jail, or let the biker gangs get a piece of 'em

This is ridiculous. I don't like the war or the people in power but I sure as hell respect their positions and what they go through. These people shouldnt even be allowed to live in America. This just pisses me off. Have some respect people.

P.S- Make sure they get a very good southern welcome

They have a right to protest, under the First Amendment, they just need to remember why

I'm surprised Hell's Angels hasn't cashed in on this crap.

You know, back when I was relatively active and church-going, I used to listen to a Pastor/Comedian who had an interesting POV: "...If someone's out there looking for something to fill the void in their life, they're looking to see it, not listening to hear it, and if they don't see it in you, then they'll look elsewhere..."

These so-called Christians are, IMO, about 180 degrees from what I have grown up understanding the teachings in the Bible. Compassion? Nope, not one drop. Kindness? Shah, RIGHT!!!

Unless they're marrying within their own congregation, I don't understand how this worthless excuse for a religious group is still going... However, that would begin to explain their idiocy...

While they may have the protected rights to free speech, religious beliefs, etc, I don't think I'd lose a wink of sleep at night if some natural disaster were to happen to deprive us of their oh-so-enlightened religious viewpoint...

Personally, their rights be damned... Between a family who has paid the highest price upon the altar of freedom and these morons who can't raise their attendance numbers without resorting to pettiness and controversy to get free publicity, I'm sticking with the families. I'll be happy to provide a 21-gun salute... I just don't guarantee that the guns will be loaded with blanks, nor that they'd be pointed up into the sky, should this band of boneheads decide to stop by and "pay their respects"... Whaddya mean I can't shoot 'em, preacher? Just givin' you and the funeral director some more business...

Set up a perimeter, boys, no fundies allowed.

According to some research, including the Wikipedia entry, that would be correct.

I think that law only applies to federal cemetaries. If it's a private, then they can.

After a little more digging, it now appears to me that the "Phelps' Homophobic Church and Drive-Thru Frivolous Lawsuit Filing" is nothing more than a disgraced and disbarred lawyer and his less-than-stellar family, who make their "living" by taking the mantle of an extremist homophobic "preacher" and his flock, finding the most outrageous and controversial topic / location to protest, and do everything they can to incite someone to strike first, so they can then sue the individual / group, AS WELL AS THE LOCAL / STATE POLICE for failing to protect their "rights"...

AFAIC, he's got a right to STFU and go crawl back under that rock... It seems he's willingly ignoring the fact that it doesn't take very much more than a couple pounds of pressure to put a permanent end to his scam. One day, he and his ilk will show up at the wrong funeral, start their crap, and someone's not going to have anything to lose and exert that few pounds of pressure until they're good and satisfied...
