Default Bill Gates Is Retiring

Effective July 2008 Bill Gates, chairman, will transition out of a day-to-day role in the company to spend more time on his global health and education work at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The company announced a two-year transition process to ensure that there is a smooth and orderly transfer of GatesÂ’ daily responsibilities, and said that after July 2008 Gates would continue to serve as the companyÂ’s chairman and an advisor on key development projects.

Best of luck to you Bill.

I dont think windows is going away, just a reshuffle at the top for new idea's ect or so the analyst are saying, i will be curious how this works out, after going to a few developer conferences i allways got the impression he was really joined at the hip with his company, i wonder how he will keep his fingers in the soup so to speak.

Dude, you are seriously smoking crack if you think he hasn't already laid out a 20-year plan for the company. Do you honestly think he's going to let somebody else make all the decisions? I'm sure Ballmer or somebody will have their name on the memos, but they'll still get the nod from the Bill.

And as for open-source Windows... there's already Linux. Why try to force a square peg into a round hole? Just get developers to make more games for Linux and then Windows will go the way of the dinosaur.

Well, we can always hope, anyway...

Bill Gates is still the majority shareholder in Microsoft, because of this...ideas and allocation of funds for new projects will still have to go through him.

He more than likely will be on as a consultant to Microsoft. Basically, it means that he has the power of a CEO (in a sense) without the work. The best of both worlds.

Windows isn't going anywhere, don't worry about that.

The guy who founded Ford Motor Companies retired, but Ford never went away, same thing applies here.
