| Hello everyone i finally just ordered a copy of Microsoft XP Pro, i have never used this OS before and wanted to get every ones thoughts on this OS and how maybe to make it look great looking, such as desktop themes, wallpaper, icons etc. i know i have heard a lot of fello pimps and pimpettes here say they have been using something called windows blinds to spruce up there desktop, so i wanted to know what you all do to spruce up your desktop using WinXP Pro and what kinda of software or programs would be good for someone to start out with such as me being fairly a newbie to this OS, i am currently running Win 2k which i am more familiar with and the new OS called Windows Vista which i am still playing around with, so now i want to play around with XP Pro until Windows Vista starts getting more support drivers and updates. | ||

| Banned | DONT USE WINDOWBLINDS. Try out this neat little trick that lets you use skins w/out software, so it wont take up anymore resources than the defualt skins. MAKE SURE YOU INSTALL THE UPDATES AND SERVICE PACKS FIRST. Not sure how many have already done this, but I read a recent post on another forum, on how to get windows skins w/out unsing such software as: Windowsblinds, StyleXP, and so on. To run the windows theme you first have to replace your uxtheme.dll file in your system folder with a "hacked" version so you can run a non-ms signed theme. instuctions on how to do this here: http://www.tech-recipes.com/windows_tips1088.html This is very simple and only takes about a minute. Then you need the theme. there are ****-tons of them on deviant art, but the one i use(and the best vista one i've seen so far) is here: http://www.deviantart.com/view/27363349/ I found this to use absolutely no more resources than what the normal XP theme would use. Honestly, I love this. It's nice having a different look to XP and not have to use extra software that really does suck up resources. Also, if you want the Vista aero glass effect, download this little program: http://www.chime.tv/products/glass2k.shtml This will give it that "transparency" effect. Glass2k does take a little ram though. Right now, I'm using that vista skin, and I love how my desktop looks right now. | |

| I like Window Blinds, and as far as I can see its taking less than 1mb of memory, not exactly a system hogger is she! I recommend using Window Blinds and the default sites it kicks up for downloading extra themese as nearly all will be compatible. | ||
